I’ve owned my force for about a month now and Been completely overwhelmed by doing exactly what you told me NOT to do at the start of this video just opening demos playing around with them and enjoying pressing buttons but not actually producing anything myself as I instantly got lost as I tried to record stuff. Ive watched this now three times and honestly this video is so important video to me and I can’t thank you enough for taking the time and effort in making it I really do feel like I have a good overview, you’ve explained it at exactly the pace that I need to understand, without jumping a step or assuming knowledge I don’t have - I also much appreciate the fact that you’ve chopped it up the way that you do so that I can go to different parts again thank you for that.

Fantastic tutorial! I just literally bought my Force last night - after MUCH research & watching many vids to be sure it met my needs (after returning the MPC Live II that I realized was not what I needed.) As many here have said, most videos assume SO much prior knowledge, and move way too fast for real beginners. I think this video alone will save me untold frustration as I get started with this machine I am already in love with! P.S. I'm a lifelong keyboard player who is determined to build my own backup band, lol!

@187onasimp2 жыл бұрын
I come back to this video periodically to get a refresher on using the Force. This is the best tutorial on KZbin! Once you put down the Force for a while it's hard to remember all it's quirks. Akai has made it a very powerful tool with all the recent updates. I'm not a big complainer about challenging gear but I find the biggest hurdles with a lot of gear these days be it Roland, Korg, Akai whomever are the "dual function" buttons. Press "shift" to do this and access that hidden feature. I don't know why manufacturers are afraid to add in more buttons that you can press to take you directly to a feature. The Force would be a lot smoother if they put in more direct access buttons. It's got more features than dedicated buttons. The idea of engineering things to make them both compact and meticulous is not really helpful for musicians. It's not that bad if you're using the same piece of gear daily you learn it by heart but you get 4 of 5 pieces of gear with secondary functions you forget and get confused sometimes when you jump around using them. That's my only complaint about the Force.
@MaxipokMusic2 жыл бұрын
I’m really glad this is proving helpful to you! Yep I agree, the button combinations do make Force more difficult to learn. I like the way Elektron boxes are laid out, more or less knob per function, that would be cool if there is ever a Force MK2 🙂
@xntricity6446 Жыл бұрын
I agree with your feedback, I typically buy gear that has knob per function for the very reason you highlight, it gets difficult to remember what the secondary functions are if you step away from it for a bit. And ofc we have plenty of gear so have to remember it all and be creative at the same time!

Thank you Sir, a great tutorial video and very informative. Saved me a heap of time wading through the full Force manual. Just one small point, not everyone may be happy or confident enough to install a SATA disk drive internally so I have found that it's important to use a USB 3 thumb drive or fast SD card if using either of these options especially with disk streaming turned on. Initially I made the mistake of using a USB 2 thumb drive for storage. My projects saved OK but I experienced some problems on playback. USB 2 thumb drives don't seem to be able to read some project data quick enough even if plugged into the Force's USB 3 slots. This may be obvious to some people but I just thought I'd point this out. Once again, thank you🙂

I’m not in any of the firmware beta testing groups so don’t know if there is anything coming, but I reckon there will be, even if it’s just a few more plug-in instruments. I’d like to see some mastering-specific effects added too, even just a LUFS meter would be helpful!

This is an amazing and well done tutorial. I've had my Force for 2 years I think. I kept putting off using it because it seemed rather complicated (That and I also brought a Korg Kronos and you need a PHd to understand that thing) I had the One and the MPC-X those weren't so bad but the Force is a whole nother monster to tame. I thank you for making this tutorial. I had a hard time understanding the manual.

This is really nice feedback, thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful and I hope you enjoy exploring the Force further. Funnily, I think coming to it from the MPC makes things more confusing, the workflow is so different but the UI looks similar, so it’s a bit disorienting. Ableton to Force is a much smoother transition! Thanks for watching 🙂

@@MaxipokMusic Yes the force I think is great for people already used to DAW's and the many midi interfaces they work with. To me it's a very strange creature as I don't use any of those things. What I find myself with are A LOT of options with the Force. Like the sequencer and all it's options for one. It has so many features that it's very overwhelming to the unfamiliar. I appreciate the people that take time to make these tutorials. I don't know if it's a trend or what but these manufacturers make these complex products and then post up like 2 minute long how to tutorials on things that would take a half hour to truly go over. Akai did have a Force Specialist at one point who had a channel on here that showed tips and tricks and he also did Q&A's live streams but they booted him for some reason and never really replaced him.

@@187onasimp Yep I know what you mean, the learning curve is steep. I think the brands rely a lot on the community to create learning resources now, which is fine most of the time, but with Force it wasn’t that popular at first so there are less videos for it that MPC or something like Maschine. Worth sticking with though, it’s a lot of fun when you get your head around it!

Your keygroup disclaimer was on point. I think most here will have new machines and for myself the keygroup selection was a fail because there is nothing in the expansions folder You could have showed a work around and pretended you has a new machine as it was mighty peculiar for you not to since this is to help new users and all ...hey but its a great way to sell plugins yeah and so much so i had to see if you sold any yourself lol jk maybe just in jest but yeah I could not seem to get past this keygroup selection even though the drums were easy enough to assign giving me false hope all this was gonna be smooth... Let me ask you this how much do these add-ons cost on the general side of things and can I just create my own once I master this grounded vessel and the tide comes in so I am no longer grounded? ...Wait a minute this thing has wings?? This here ain't no boat!! Cheers

I don't even own a Force (had the MC707 for a brief time, but did struggle with it) and your video is great! Especially since its very up-to-date. Might buy one as an addition to my DJ gear (Denon Prime), since it features Ableton Link! Maybe I can get a bit into hybrid stuff :D

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had the 707 for a while, really loved the sound of it but the sequencer was very clunky I thought. It would be fun to use it as a sound module with the Force. Thanks for watching! 🙂

@@MaxipokMusic Exactly my thoughts! The ZenCore Synth is powerful, but the whole unit was rather cumbersome to control and understand. Even basic things like Arp (hidden) or Undo (missing), while the big screen of the Akai is especially helpful when you forgot specific shortcuts - you can still access most things via Menu or Touch. Also the split function (have clips in the GUI but notes/drums on the pads) is incredibly powerful. I got my Force now and I love it. Thanks again for your great video. You really covered all essential basics within 1hr, kudos for that!

One of the best Force Tutorials I have ever seen on You Tube! Thank you for that! For a Beginner like me, this is awesome. One Question: could you show how to load Expansions into the Force? Thanks for all. Great Work!
@MaxipokMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I’m glad you found it useful! Do you mean a video showing how to install expansions on the Force, or how to load them once they are on there?

@@uwerosenthal5520 To be honest I don’t use the Akai expansions so I haven’t done it myself, but I just watched this and it seems to answer the question. It involves using the free MPC Beats software, I’m not sure if there is a way to do it without that. Sorry I can’t be more helpful on this one! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWOzn4iNZ9Z2mck

Great tutorial, and I just learned that the ARP function is locked for all the tracks; which is crazy if you ask me. For a scale it make sense that everything should be in the same key; but the note repeat should be a parameter modifiable per track, and not just a global one
@MaxipokMusic3 жыл бұрын
Yep it catches me out all the time! It would definitely be better per-track for live performance. Thanks for watching, I’m glad the video was useful!
