A Needlebook is a super simple project that is made up of 3 rectangles and a bit of thread. This is a fantastic project for a beginner sewer or anyone who wants a fast finish using nothing but scraps. It requires very little material and even less time.
What do you do with a Needlebook? Hold your needles! Or your earrings! Or stray threads you'll use later! Not only will it hold a few of your essentials, it's also a great project to build on. You can add pockets, zippers, and clear vinyl to turn this into a custom wallet, zipper pouch, and so much more.
Cutting Instructions:
Outer Panel - 9.5" x 5"

Hey software girl; me too. But sewing is my jam. Still a fairly new sewist; only because I've been afraid to mess up "the Precious" (fabric). I love your energy and tutorials. I am making quilts and talking about therapeutic, minus the times when I am banging the table because I've sewn something together backwards. Seam rippers, though I hate it, has become my best friend. I have about 7 (excessive much), that's about how many mistakes I make. Nevertheless, I keep going because the end result is always so beautiful and satisfying. Any hoo, all that to say, I love your channel. The point of my comment, was to say, I like your version better. I did the old way with the thick cardstock in the middle, nearly died from the fabric spray that stuck to everything and I was cleaning glue residue for days. Y'all, don't do that! Your way, so much easier. Thank you.

I thought these needle books were originally a girls first hand sewing projects. Ice been wanting to make one for awhile now. I picked up some Wool felt because the natural lanolin in it is supposed to prevent the needles from rusting. It's more expensive so I plan to only use that where needles go. I also want pockets inside front and back covers, for needle threaders, maybe some black or white thread, buttons, and scissors ✂️ in the back. Earring holder?? OMG that's BRILLIANT!! Perfect for travel if they aren't dangling too much

I love the Quilter’s Select rulers you use! I found them a few months ago in my local quilt shop, and the non-slip backs are AMAZING! I just bought a few more sizes online this morning. These needle books are so cute. I’m thinking about learning hand embroidery, so this will be very helpful. I wonder, though, if you could show how to make these with a zipper that goes around all three open sides. I know the snaps and buttons are very secure, but I’m a bit paranoid with needles in a house with pets. Thank you for the video!

Oh Jess I am so happy with how this turned out. I didn't have any fusible fleece so what I do have is quite a few unfinished quilted place mats. I cut 1 up and paired it with quilt cotton and was able to make 2 of these needlebooks with Kam snaps. OMG so adorable. I will take a picture of them and post them on your facebook page to show you.

Like this idea for sewing on-the-go. I may use a magnetic closure (shown on one of your clutch videos) which makes it a little heavier, but also has the magnet for picking up dropped needles. Thank you for another well thought out project!

Hi Jess, two questions and a comment: 1. Can you sew vinyl in a less expensive machine, such as a Brother? 2. What kind of needle would I need to sew vinyl? And the comment is, for those of us older women, whose hands already hurt, the KAM snap tool would be horrible to use. I'm glad you showed an alternative closure. :) Thanks, nice little project. 😎

You can put paper tissue under vinyl and will take like butter but remember brush with nabuko brush residue as paper and engeen of mashine and dust is fire alert 📢. You can put also sticky tape or duck tape under your standard foot so will glide more on materials instead paying for expensive ones but you need check do any sticking to feet dogs or rolling ,i do like you keep leftover of backing paper from cutting forms from them .

Start and finish the knot for the button under the button where it won't show ;) I like to sew the button on before attaching the layers. It's far enough from the edge not to be in the way of the seam.
