The little pond I created last year has a resident frog since the past few months I am so delighted.

Much needed video. Many people do not realize their small garden or even balcony can contribute to the survival of certain species of wildlife. 👍

Fantastic call for action. Thank you, Joel. I am in the US right now and every time I discover a butterfly (still around in mid October) my heart fills with joy. Have seen Cabbage White, Common Buckeye, a Spicebush Swallowtail, Sulphurs, a Painted Lady and Skippers. Just over the weekend while on a business trip in Cincinnati...and indeed they can be found where the right plants are planted...and thanks to your videos I know where I need to look... :)

Hey Joel! Hope you and yours are all doing ok. Your front garden is such a lovely space for wildlife and proves the fact we don't need acres to make a difference. It all helps. Best wishes.

The hedge we bought from you is 18 months old now and starting to thicken up - very exciting! We had a badger visit in the back garden. I had mowed a section of the lawn (the importance of a mosaic) and they have done a great job digging it over so I can add more wildflower seed. 😁

Utterly Amazing 😍 That you can create ALL that in your (smallish) front yard! It looks like A LOT going on in the aerial view. A playground for Nature. Was so refreshing to hear you say, "Nature has never needed us more" when I'm surrounded by people taking from nature, on a daily basis & NEVER giving back! What absolute Heaven it would be to live in a community comprised of ONLY people like you. It sure would restore my faith in humans 😢 TY for your neverending devotion!

It’s amazing what’s happening in your front garden (saw the post about the Wall butterflies!). Mines even smaller than yours, but I have butterflies, hawk moths and flower bees visiting. Thanks for the inspiration as always 🫡

Now’s the time to prepare a space by removing turf or cutting grass so so short it will mostly die back, getting in some native wildflowers and native grasses and lovely yellow rattle too.

I keep thinking there’s no wildlife in my mother’s garden but then on a recent summer’s morning I took a closer look and saw butterflies, wasps, flies and loads of other insects and birds. They just need to be encouraged with sympathetic planting and the provision of water. We can all do our little bit to help nature.

I have a butterfly garden in ft Lauderdale I love your wild life garden in ft Lauderdale there's very little habits for wild life so I get lots of butterflies the bird eat too many of my caterpillars so I put them in a enclosure till they turn into butterflies then I release them into my garden 😊

Hi Joel, thank you for your videos. I hope to be inspired by your alder buckthorn, but we already have many trees in the garden. Can alder buckthorn be grown and kept at shrub size or like a hedge against a fence for example? And how much syn does it require? Thanks.
@Sorrowful002 ай бұрын
Alder buckthorn grows naturally as a shrub, it only grows tall if it's in shade

Hoping to have a small wild flowermeadow in my lawn next summer. Read your book and then completely ignored your tips and did it my way😊. I have sown yellow rattle to start with. But if its only buttercups and grasses next spring, it is also fine. I do not like the idea of removing turf, because I am a bit of a no-dig fan. If all fails there is a plan B: Buying some plug plants.
@Sorrowful002 ай бұрын
Plug plants are great, but germinating wild seeds at home and then planting them in the garden is a lot more efficient
