It's an older Gibson Les Paul Studio ('97 I think) so it's all solid core, not like the new ones with hollowed channels that make it sound too airy for my taste. Her name is Leslie :)

You could, if you don’t have a capo, also put the riff in the D chord position in the key you’re playing in, and then move the root note around as normal for the main riff. Doing that gives it a more beastly sound on the bridge pickup. I did that for a version at a church, and got a lot of compliments on the sound.

Im thinking all youll have to do is transpose it all to "D". He plays capo 2 which looks like G but is still in A. So take the notes from the scale and transpose it down 5 half steps down so now you will be in D. It wont be exactly like he plays here but just enough to play how you want. Thats just an idea, sometimes transposing songs up or down chromatically wont always sound good either.. so just be careful. Just try it and see what its like for you. Be blessed bro :)

Dang!! That was really good!! I'm going to learn this with my worship team this week. I'm excited to learn this song. It seems complex, but I know I can do it!! I have a different question though pertaining to the recording equipment you use. I want to create video tutorials for the worship team, so I'm wondering what type of amp you are using and how are you recording the audio for your tutorials?? Are you Micing an amp and then recording using an interface and a computer, or are you just using a digital SLR camera?

Put Capo on 2 and play your D and G string. Open D string and start on the actual 9th fret of the G string. With capo it would be 7th if you counting from the capo. We play this song in e at our church.

1) don't be a wuss and use a capo on your electric guitar

There's really not another option to get both the slides and the droning open string. You could leave out the open string but that will fundamentally change the tone of the riff. I know some lead players believe it is a badge of honor to play without a capo but you are really limiting yourself on tone. Open string sound different than fretted strings. It's best to have the skills to choose either based on what's best for the song. In this case the capo is without question the better choice.
