I have never thought that there would come a day that I am being educated by Ruby on sharks :')

*This was so interesting! I knew sharks were portrayed incorrectly, but I wasn’t aware of the scale at which they are hunted and threatened by human activity! More videos like this please.*

I remember a documentary I once watched about this. It showed how a shark that had had it’s fins cut, was still alive when the fisherman threw it back into the water. The shark moved, it was it’s instinct to try to swim but it obviously couldn’t, so it sunk, still breathing, moving and bleeding. It’s an image that I can’t erase from my mind, it still haunts me whenever I think about it and it’s the reason why I stopped feeling scared of them.

I have always loved sharks. They are my favourite animals and I've always tried to explain to others that they are just misunderstood and just confused or scared

I learnt a lot from this video. My parents have always told me that I shouldn’t be too afraid of sharks, because they’re not as bad as movies portray them. But this taught me a lot more about it. I had no idea how endangered sharks were and I’m so glad that you taught me more about it!

So-so interesting! It’s astonishing just how much damage a single film can do.. This is why we need to educate ourselves and strive to become more mindful of what we put out into the world. Thank you for the video Ruby!

It was thanks to Jaws that we now know so much more. Jaws inspired lots of today's shark biologists who wanted to be Matt Hooper, not Quint. There was a great documentary about this with interviews of a number of them.

Yay! Sharks interest me so much and they really need to be protected! When I was younger, me and my brother used to do ice-lolly sales and cake sales to raise money for sharks and I used to draw posters to put around my school...I used to get so angry if people said they were dangerous 😂 thanks so much for this video, hopefully it will help for some people to understand sharks and why they need to be protected :)

YESSSS! It is kinda my dream to be a shark biologist (although it is a very competitive field) so this is amazing! I am constantly telling everyone about sharks and how amazing they are! I would really reccomend the short document the shark net film on KZbin about one of the threats to sharks

My only real knowledge of sharks was: -Animated children's films -Vaguely aware of Jaws -Saw a picture of a shark attack but the same article explained that they just think surfers are seals -Vague memory of a children's science program that explained sharks were nice. So, thank you, I am now going to go sign a petition or something.

Thank so much for the video dear Ruby .👏🙏 I learned so many things about sharks and the extinction facts and the way they catch the shark . and that they bleed to death stuffs were so sad.... As we can see some human beings are real antagonists not the sharks.

Very interesting video Ruby! Thanks for that :D I basically knew nothing about it before :D But I agree that the media largely impacts these kinds of thoughts and fears... I always think of the movie Bait 3D which is basically the same thing. It's a horror movie where a great white sharks gets stranded in a flooded supermarket after a tsunami and it eats the stuck humans one after another until of course the main character eventually kill the shark and escape... I don't know with fish it was always kind of the same for me as with insects... meaning: don't come near me and we are both fine xDDD I don't like fish in general tbh xD I don't eat them, I don't like seeing or touching them xD

Being Australian, going to the beach is such a huge part of our lifestyle, that we sort of just learn growing up to accept the risk of shark attacks, especially if you’re a surfer. We unfortunately do have quite a high rate of fatal shark attacks compared to the rest of the world, our last death was just a few weeks ago, but I’d say that most people still have a pretty positive opinion of sharks, and generally don’t support culling. We recognise that if we’re going into their territory, we’re the ones taking that risk.

Just a little bit of criticism, some sharks can stop swimming eg. The nurse shark and there are many that lay at the bottom of the sea bed. Some species have to keep swimming to breath though eg.the great white shark because that is how they keep the oxygen moving into their gills. Just something I thought you might like to know😊

Here in Australia they often justify the murder of sharks after a shark attack. We are entering their home and expect to be welcome but get angry when they defend themselves. It makes me so mad. There are plenty of beaches, go to a different one instead of committing murder just so can go surfing.

I am so sorry that some groups of Chinese people eat shark fin soup. I feel ashamed. (No one around me eat something like this)
@滕毅-f1n4 жыл бұрын
I have to confess that in China many choose to have shark fin soup (which is indeed exorbitant), but be that as it may, taking a step back, I think given that all species should have the equal status, why people who eat other animals and plants are not condemned( just because those species are endangered doesn’t mean that they can be slaughtered with lower guilt, right?) but only people who have shark fin soup are? ( how can it not be a special form of discrimination..)
