We have these at McDonald’s. Makes it faster for faster coffee, and super effective in the sense that we won’t drop it in the floor by accident. If that happens, we have to go wash it up, sanitise it, rinse again, and then dry it throughly, which takes more time than you’d think. And conserving this would most likely be in the morning, the barista would be slower than usual to clean it. So yeah, these machines are super good. May be expensive, but speeds up the process, and never makes the shot uneven unless you somehow mess it up. It’s so simple that even me, a person only trained in the front counter area can do it!

Literally spending hours at the espresso machine grinding grounds and pouring shots and tasting them and throwing them out until I got the exact right flavor… then they would change up the espresso blend on me and id have to learn it all over again! Lol so these are practical for someone who wants a good solid even pour without spending several years making nasty shots before you get better. Honestly I wish they gave baristas at coffee shops self leveling and adjustable tamps because gad dayum is it Russian roulette out here trying to get a good espresso drink from a random barista lol

I work at a café, and for the longest time we used hand tampers, the good old-fashioned style with no frills. A lot of the baristas started having wrist and shoulder problems, and we were trying to figure out why, first thought being that we were all somehow tamping incorrectly. After reviewing everything,we realized that all of the barista that were having wrist problems were under 5’7! The owner of the café is very tall, and so when our bar was built, it was built for his height. That means that all of the shorter baristas had to put more pressure on their wrist and elbow, and even stand on tiptoes, in order to enact the correct amount of pressure onto the espresso grounds for leveling. We got a self-leveling tamper, and at first it seemed solve the problem, but then we all ended up having significantly worse wrist issues because we stopped holding the tamper correctly all together, we got lazy. The café finally caved and invested in an electric tamper when four out of six baristas were having to call out of shifts because of carpal tunnel or tendinitis, me included😂
