Nice video explaining the need for adjustable control arms. My family has three Jeeps, and 2 of them are lifted. I have learned a few things over the years and wish I saw this earlier, because this will effect how ur ride handles on/off road, angle on caster/pinion, and wear and tear of driveshaft. The bigger the lift the more important this is, and there are only two ways to compensate: 1. Adjustable Control Arms. 2. Control Arm Brackets

Something no one talks about. On a Jeep JK..... After you adjust your pinion angle.... your axle will rotate a bit. Once that happens you will find your rear sway bar link now will rub and or bend going up against your rear lower control arm bracket. Nice eh? You may need to grind away part of the control arm base mount so that the sway bar link will clear the mount. Otherwise you will find a rear bent sway bar link. Also the rear sway bar angle will need to be put back to a horizontal orientation. You will want longer sway bar links.... and make sure you modify the base of the control arm or purposfully bend the sway links to clear the control arm mount. One more thing. You will need to install 10 degree shims to your lower coil spring bases.... to get your coil springs back into shape. Once your rotate your axle to get the correct pinion angle... now your coilsprings are going to be bowed. The shims will help get the bow out of your springs. You can purchase these shims online

Great video. I wish I would have watched this before I got my lift or, should I say, picked the company I did to install it.

Great video thank you! I’m having this done. Had an OMEmu lift put in my JK and it’s been tracking weird on the highway so my shop suggested BDS lower adjustable control arms. They didn’t explain the science like this though lol.

I bought the cheapest rough country lift kit for my TJ. The products are all fixed and not adjustable. Axles are off, the springs are off (too close to the pole). Adjustable track bar fixed the axle problem.. now I hope this adjustable low control arm help me fix the front springs to be more aligned in the middle

Great video, i have 3.5 jku lifted and replaced the lower control arms only, not a good idea. If u dont replace the upper ones also the axle diff where the drive shaft goes in will adjust down as u adjust the lower control arms longer because ur uppers are fixed to the top of the axle. Both control arms are a must if ur gonna change. I made this mistake and had to buy uppers also

Do both the upper and lower control arms affect axle position? Or, is it just the lower set that actually affect it?

Great explanation, good job... it all makes sense now. would it make sense to put adjustable control arms on first before add a lift kit, or after... assuming you can do them at the same time.

Can I get away with just getting lower control arms and not uppers on 2 1/2 lift on 35's I can definitely tell the difference in distance on the fenders mostly on the rear, and how far can you go before the drive shaft is to short it's my first jeep and I don't know crap

What about upper control arms on the front of a tj? My Jeep tj rubicon has a 4” lift but no adjustable upper control arms in the front. I have the other 6 adjustable control arms. Why would they skip the front uppers?

For a 3.5" lift I was told that the adjustment for the control arm is 3/8 - 1/2" forward or out (meaning longer that the original/factory control arm) Does anyone know if that is correct? I only need it close enough to get it to the shop for the alignments.

Is there a chart that gives you rough figures for the lengths based on lift size? Just installed a 3.5” lift and wanted to get it somewhat close before taking it to an alignment shop.

By adding the adjustable control Arms and moving the tires back to a more normal position.. do I know need a longer drive shaft because the axle separation is further apart? Also, what can i expect to be better or different after the control arm upgrade other than the proper axle spacing?
@DNRAuto
@DNRAuto 6 жыл бұрын
alex arguello there’s no flat out answer to that. Generally speaking the driveshaft is ok, but if you want to get real in depth you can have the driveshaft length and balance adjusted for the tire size/gear ratio/etc. The number one thing you’re going to notice is much better daily drivability. It will ride better/handle better everyday

@Foxlastname

id get them. I have a 2.5 on my wj and it got a death wobble from hell. it also has 180k on stock arms ;]. Id suggest doing it. Im rebuilding my front end completely as far as tie rods, ball joints, and control arms go.
