My kids who were dressed at Link and Elsa were not worshipping the Devil tonight. We just walked house to house and got candy. Dude my sons Catholic school did a costume parade and had a pumpkin patch. And tomorrow they celebrate all saints day. And my church's most attended jr youth night is the Halloween night. Candy and costumes is a great way to get kids to go to s church event.

There's quite a few misconceptions about Halloween. The Halloween we celebrate in the US is a bit of amalgamation of different cultures. About 150-200ish years ago is when it started ramping up. You had immigrants from Ireland, Britain, Germany, the Caribbean, Cuba, Mexico, and France coming over with unique ways of celebrating All Saint's Day, All Hollow's Eve, and various other things. The thing all of them had in common was that they were Christian, either Protestant or Catholic. Though I wouldn't be surprised if some Greek Orthodox got in there as well. These cultures had different local ways of practicing the autumn holidays and their fellow immigrants and Americans already here started practicing similar things to copy and integrate them into their own autumn stuff. Eventually stuff like visiting the cemeteries to visit passed loved ones became a theme for the macabre, carving pumpkins instead of squash or turnips was move fun, and the whole thing about dressing up to ward off evil spirits became just an excuse to have fun and dress up. Believe it or not, commercialization was the result of demand, and not the result of businesses sticking their noses in. You can see elaborate costumes and decorations that were homemade in older photographs. Heck you can even see photos of famous people like Robert E. Howard (author of the Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane, and Kull stories) in the 1930s dressing up (hard to tell if it was for Halloween or not, he was a bit of a nerd in a good way). These get more and more prevalent as the 20th century went and it took a minute for companies to catch on and then the business just absolutely exploded. It wasn't like Christmas or Easter were they had to infiltrate. But like the video said, Halloween is a Christian creation by Christians for Christians. At least in the way it is celebrated in the United States, and that method spread around to other countries. Its not for the devil and its not demonic. And that is something that needs to be addressed. Its not as simple as some so-called fundamentalists just poo pooing on yet another good time. What they are doing is actually dangerous for themselves. The scriptures warn against superstition. Calling Halloween or other celebrations 'demonic' or 'satanic' and fearing them is superstition and can actually attract the very things they are trying to avoid. Those entities are attracted to superstitions like moths to a flame. Celebrating Halloween is totally fine. Trick or Treating, dressing up, carving pumpkins and all that is entirely fine. I would warn that you should also be doing these things to have fun. Don't assign rituals and other things to them. For example it is true that celtics did make carvings to ward off spirits. If you're doing this, it might actually have the opposite effect, since that would be a superstition. Same with dressing up to ward off spirits. Or trying to contact them through various other activities and rituals and such. I'm sure you all are starting to see a pattern here. If you feel you have an issue with such entities, don't do superstitions to ward them off, just pray to our Lord and Savior, and choose instead to have fun on this fun celebration with your friends and neighbors.

Forgive me, but I believe that you presented an overly-simplified explanation. The Church in northern Europe, nominally Catholic but heavily influenced by Celtic beliefs, instituted All Saints Day to put their holiday on top of the pre-existing New Year festival of Samhain. This was especially true in Ireland, recently converted by St. Patrick and others. The practice of placing a new faith upon the old one is found throughout history. Christmas was placed upon the pagan holiday of Saturnalia, Yule and the birth of Mithra- even though the Bible informs us that Jesus was born in the spring. Christian churches were very often placed right over the razed pagan temples they vanquished. In many cases, when archeologists explore these earlier ruins, they find that they were placed over even earlier places of worship. In short, the holiday of Halloween is an excellent time to recount to young members of the family the history of their ancestors, and the great men and women of faith who spread the Gospel and kept the faith alive under difficult times. It's also a great time to eat candy and watch horror movies- which I have every intention of doing.

I agree that my explanation of church history was very oversimplified. My main point to the video is highlighting to evangelicals that Halloween isn’t worth being afraid of. It’s not actually the day of the devil, because the devil doesn’t have that kind of power over the world.

The God sees and remembers everything then there will be the Judgment. The God has nothing to do with magic or with pagan holidays. This is the God's word, Deuteronomy 12: 29-32: "When Jehovah thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest in to dispossess them, and thou dispossessest them, and dwellest in their land; take heed to thyself that thou be not ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How do these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto Jehovah thy God: for every abomination to Jehovah, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods. What thing soever I command you, that shall ye observe to do: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it." Leviticus 20: 27: "A man also or a woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones; their blood shall be upon them." Levticus 19: 31: "Turn ye not unto them that have familiar spirits, nor unto the wizards; seek them not out, to be defiled by them: I am Jehovah your God." (ASV) This is a christians' way, Acts 19: 19: "And not a few of them that practised magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver." But, the inhabitants of World Sodom run to fortune tellers and astrologers while blessing them in the name of God... The problem is Devil runs the world. He is liar and murderer. This is the reason why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. This is the reason why the whole world is Sodom. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. He has anointed the king, Jesus Christ. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our loved ones again! :-)
