Did you ever hear the tragedy of Kaori Miyazono? I thought not. It's not story most anime fans like to talk about. It's known as Your Lie In April. Kaori Miyazono was a violinist so talented and so free, she could play the music with sincerity in such a way as to inspire a bereft had-been pianist to play again after two years. She became so free in all aspects of her life, the only thing she was afraid of was losing her life which, eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, she had a terminal illness that the pianist had inspired her to fight so that they might play together again and so she decided to have a surgery in an attempt to prolong her life even a little while longer but ended up dying due to surgical complications. Ironic. She was inspired to live but died from the very thing that could have saved her.

Kaori's illness is bone marrow failure/Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) According to the ALS association, the average life expectancy of someone with ALS is 2-5 years after diagnosis. About 50% die within 3 years, 20% live for more than 5 years, 10% more than 10 years, and 5% more than 20 years. When Stephen Hawking was diagnosed at age 21 he was told he could expect to live another 2 years. That was over 50 years ago.

When I first started watching The lie in April , I thought it would be the same as every other anime, action filled with sadness just thrown in, but it was so beautiful and I regret doubting it, I wish I watched it sooner it was so emotional and I think really reached the hearts of every viewer, just like they wanted it to, it really showed us that all good things must come to an end but every cloud has a silver lining.
