Every episode just keeps on hitting on relatable experiences! For handling cutting people out, I think growing up having to try extra hard to be included, and now going the extra mile to be inclusive, unless something drastic has happened, it always feels hard to just cut people out.. Then with the red flags, honestly just being yourself and not lying can get you so far! And if it doesn't work out while being true to yourself, then maybe that relationship wouldn't have worked out anyways, win-win. Reminds me of what Eric mentioned in a past pod, about how you can really tell how a person is based on how they act when no one is really around.

Tuesdays are the busiest days of the week for me at work, with up to 12 meetings some of these Tuesdays, but JOMO gives me the motivation to move through the day so that I can take that hour at the end of the day to myself, listening to the pod, sometimes laughing or grinning to myself when either of you says something so so relatable, or nod when I learn something new, while eating dinner or closing my eyes to rest. Especially, for this week, I got eye Conjunctivitis yesterday and it’s a very weird experience for me, as just another dopamine-run Gen Z individual, to simply do nothing, because my eyes need to rest. I got a mini panic attack just thinking about the prospect of doing nothing for two days (possibly for the first time in more than 8 years) and just resting- I mean; what’s that like? Lol. I hate this mindset that I am cycled by. But I knew that it was JOMO Day, and that definitely cheered me up, and gave me something to think about and look forward to. This episode ABSOLUTELY packed punch!!! Loved it, learned so much, and got to understand a lot more about the societal etiquettes surrounding social events like these. Hopefully, someday, I will be important enough to feel deserving to go into events like these.

Regarding some of the ideas for future pod episodes, see if any of these might sound interesting: - How to decenter my mind from toxic productivity? - How to rest? Battling lingering burnout (Avoid stress-laxing) I feel like ya’ll talk about this a lot on all the episodes, but I would still love to hear more about these as standalone themes for the episodes! Thanks so much, Chloe and Eric, for these wonderful episodes!! ❤

Maybe this podcast is always supposed to be business centered but hearing the way you guys talk about friends and friendship sounds business minded too 😭
@jomopod3 ай бұрын
yes - that's correct! jomo is meant to be a business podcast, from a more 360 view of what happens in between things and behind-the-scenes while pursing a career in tech and the creative world. in terms of the stories shared in this episode, these were all in the context of business and networking events - not really friend events. hope that helps set the framing for you!

34:40 I have to ask how good are the securities at these events lol. I think I have a good idea on what's going on. It seems these events are pretty intimate and you guys seem to really value honestly and transparency and it seem the other person has the ultra hustler mindset of keep trying and if it fails keep trying again. Personally like you mentioned earlier 18:54 someone if everyone in the group thinks it's unacceptable they should be called out and kicked out. I think in their perspective they think they're just hustling and because no one wants to say anything then they just think their ultra hustler mindset works all the time. 38:02, I slightly disagree. I think it just that people hate confrontations and even a small callout requires extremely high levels of practice saying that something isn't acceptable while also not trying to hurt them(depending on the circumstance) 38:28 what would you say is secure attachment style of dealing with this situation, because I dont think it's bad to just avoid them since they drained your energy. well I guess they arent that important if you can just say bye, in reality it can also be handled like how you handled the networking friend and Chloe situation but you didnt express your struggles and they didnt get a chance to do anything 38:50 actually think that's really bad, they're just draining your energy, and imo theyre just also just hate conformation while also being extreme people pleasers and insecure to stand up for themselves, it's also bad because they tend to just vent and drain everyone energy too, 39:33 I need more information but like I said it might be that they are extreme people pleasers and insecure, and bad boys can hook onto people who are nice but have low self esteem.

I have a best friend of 8 years, she ignores our group of friends (us 4) when we tell her her what her bf is doing is not appropriate(he cuddles with other girls but it’s fine cuz she’s there when it happens and their other friend group has different skinship boundaries... It’s happened 2x now where she ignores us, and it hurts, literally made our other friend cry in private. What to do? We’re young in our 20s, will she grow out of it ? Or stay with him because she doesn’t think anyone will ever love her? BUT she’s a gorgeous smart woman. But we’re grown adults, I’m ready to just break contact cuz she do be a follower & copies everything me and the other girls do lol 😭 but it’s fine cuz we’re besties but she acts so weird? Why can’t she talk to us about her feelings and be an adult? When she marries him and is miserable atleast she can never say we didn’t try, when he’s still cuddling w other woman, if he ain’t acting like ur husband now, then why would it change if yall get married ?!?! .

for your situation about the guy that found what out that 20 years ago the friend was a creeper, I think it depends on 1. why the girl mentioned it in the first place(maybe it just slipped and the girl doesnt need action to be taken). The guy should talk to the girl about his feelings, you cant fix something that was never mentioned, and try to alleviate some of the guilt. As for the guys feelings for the other guy, if it's just a networking friend, then I think you should still try to network, if its a friends, then it is different however it was also 20 years ago, if it's something of value to you and you wont stand that behavior you should do what Eric does and fully get angry and say it's not okay to be creeper, not okay to spontaneously join pickle ball game etc.. 24:16 as mentioned before since it's networking friends it should networking friends, yeah if you know they dislike each other, a very good approach is to be transparent at mentioning events they'll be at and consciously try to separate them. I think a good method for this mediation(which is good anyway) but it helps you actively focus the intention on yourself instead of focusing on they're bad people. 26:16 Eric said it best, but also to elaborate, it does feel slightly weird to drop everything for a friend because they dont get along. I think Chloe also understands why they will hangout but also knows that Eric is on her side.

My wife and I sudo shadow-banned a guy for being way too flirty with the girls in the group. We didn't want to confront him about it either as his intentions were ill, and we have no tolerance of that bs We called these kinds of people Vultures. Vultures seek opportunities to sneak into situations that are favorable to them, for example if we all went to a party, he'd seek the most tipsy couple and try to get the girl to go dance with him. It was a disgusting behavior and we never tolerated it.
