My guess as to why makeup brands do this is that it's easier and cheaper to put a small amount of the actual lipstick in a clear compartment at the bottom than to try and shade match it and then create plastic in the same color. It's pretty clever, actually!

I actually didn’t know this. But then again, the lipstick bullets I typically buy don’t have that transparent bottom either.

I think it's certain lippys... I just tried on my Milani color statement matte (it had the transparent part) but it was just the bottom of the lippy, no real color. Hoping it works on others 🤞

I'm not sure what you mean by a sample. A sample that you can use in the store to see if you like the color? If you do that, and everyone else does that, then there are germs in the sample. I think it's great that this gives you a bit more lipstick, maybe when the lipstick in the tube is used up.

I had known this when I bought one of my first locally available lipsticks and was shocked to find some extra lipstick at the bottom! I think it's good because if someone wants to try the lipstick you have, you don't have to let them use the bullet directly rather, they can try from the detachable sample! 👍

Yes I've always known that if putting my lipstick on with a brush I use it from that pot or sometimes if you buy a matt lippy the pot does have a gloss in the same colour to go over if you want to change it up.

Is this somehow useful? (Genuinely asking) Don't samples help you decide to buy and wouldn't you be annoyed if someone else has tampered with the sample on the stick you bought? Or is it to help you decide which of your own lipsticks to use to complete your look? I think it's a way for the company to technically have sold you X ml of lipstick and still have you run out and need to purchase more sooner.

Not ALL lipsticks that have that actually have anything in there tho. For instance, Milani's bullet lipsticks has that look but it's not "extra" lipstick, it is indeed just to show the shade. I tried this and it was just plastic glued on, lol. I think more higher end brands probably do this more often.
