The first time I watched this, I was completely depressed after my father passed away. This movie broke me open and made me cry for the first time since he'd died. I cried sooo hard, that I rewatched it again right after... so, I completely understand wanting to watch it again! Not sure if anyone said this - but Mitsuha wasn't writing her name on Taki's hand either - and Shinkai confirmed that she was going to write "I love you" on his hand as well.

Love this movie. I think it's a modern classic. You may have been watching a subbed version that just translated the spoken words because I think the version I have has the written Japanese text translated. I don't know if they translated what Taki wrote on Mitsuha's hand or not, but it said, "I love you". Tears. And in Japanese folklore, messages of love can transcend time, or something like that. Also everyone was evacuated to the safe area and no one died because they were holding an emergency drill but there was some skepticism about that, is what it says on the news report, but I guess Taki's VO covered it. And good catch on the Yotsugi in the classroom at the end. Most reactors don't catch that. The translation that you watched is a little different than mine. I think the phone message didn't say that the number isn't in operation. It is kind of a give away. I didn't get the twist till they were at the site. I was lucky to watch this in the theater because I just wanted to support anime in the theater. I didn't watch anything and went in cold and was stunned by the beauty that Makoto Shinkai created. I try to watch movies and let them tell their story without trying to guess too far ahead. Time passing is interesting. If you want, I highly recommend Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. It's a fantasy setting but the story and characters are incredible. IT's 28 episodes in the first season. Superb reaction. Love the sqeeing.

This is such a wonderful movie! When it came out I took our oldest out of school for the day and we went to watch it in the theater. If you can rent (or buy!) a physical copy, it translates all of the written text, too. Everything about this film is just beautiful. Thank you for reacting to it!

So this is a streaming service issue? I've been so hesitant to buy a copy for fear I'd by the wrong release or edition or something and not have that crucial subtitle

Watching the film Past Lives made me think of this movie, as they discuss the buddhist concept of 'inyeon' meaning that two souls in this current life, is based on multiple interactions of a thousand past lives. I highly recommend watching Past Lives btw!

The sorta prequel is the short film *_"The Garden of Words"_* and the sorta sequel is "Weathering with You" - all by the same director Makoto Shinkai 🤔 (But we're not gonna tell ya how - ya gonna have to figure out yourself who the cameos are 🤣 )

20:18 It's so sad that Taki and Mitsuha were on the same wavelength here. They knew each other so well without ever speaking person to person, and they both had feelings they wanted to express. But the timing was off. Taki tried to call, Mitsuha literally travelled all the way to Tokyo. If you think about it (you probably noticed this in editing), the beginning clip of Mitsuha meeting Taki happens here for Mitsuha. They do also show it later again. And the beginning shows the timeline of events for Taki and where he was while everything happened in the village.

*spoilers for clarification* I mean like, it's clear Taki tried to call in the future so there was no to pick up, I'm more saying emotionally they were at the same level here.

Buetifull film. You might want to check out a few more from this creator, "Weathering With You" (Short appearances of Taki and Mitsuha) and Suzume. Tempted to watch your reaction to "A Silent Voice" but that one nearly kills me everytime no matter how many times I've seen it.

I love this movie. Saw it in the theatre with my wife when it first came out. There is only one plot hole and its pretty glaring when you thing about it. The thing is, why did Taki never see the date written down either in school or on Mitsuha's phone when they switched bodies? Its right in front of him the whole time. Either way I still think this movie is a masterpiece of animation and emotional storytelling.

I made the same face in the beginning lmaoooo but very cute movie! I basically had the same thought process as you, throughout the movie, I felt like it was easy to pick up on if you're really paying attention.. Alsoooo I definitely would switch bodies with someone else. I think it would be so fun and interesting and its something I constantly think about- wait... not switching bodies LOL but wondering about other ppls lives- bc we pass by so many people in a day and everyone has their own life its just so crazy to me loll

First off, loved your reaction! You're a very perceptive reactor and your notes after are very funny. Subscribed! To answer your question of "Who made this?" The answer is the great director, Makoto Shinkai. This film launched him into international fame, although before Your Name he was a director who many paralleled with Miyazaki--an inaccurate and unfair comparison, in my opinion, since both are quite different in their style. Shinkai loves to play with the theme of love and distance in all its iterations. Every movie he makes (to my knowledge) centers around that theme. Sometimes his movies end well, other times a little less so, but they are always worth the price of admission. His ultimate movie, the perfect summation of his film philosophy, is found in an earlier work which is my favorite movie of all time: 5 Centimeters Per Second. It's about half the runtime of this movie and is a simpler, lower budget film that is exquisitely crafted from beginning to end with each scene more beautiful than the last. It's a bit more melancholic than Your Name, but not as likely to evoke tears. While I love Your Name, 5 Centimeters Per Second still takes the top for me. I had never encountered a film (of any medium) that resonated so perfectly with me. If I had to rank my top three favorite Shinkai films, it would be: 1. 5 Centimeters Per Second, 2. Your Name, 3. Children Who Chase Lost Voices. That last film is criminally underrated and much more fantastical than either of the other two, with 5 Centimeters Per Second being the most realistic of any of his movies (except, maybe, Garden of Words, but I don't particularly like that one). If you really liked this movie, and it seems like you did, I highly recommend watching the others. I don't know how well they'll do in terms of analytics since neither are anywhere close to as famous, but they are worth watching for their own sake and you might as well have the camera rolling while you're enjoying it. I'll also be first in line to watch any other Shinkai movies, especially those two.

Hahaha since u like movie about time. I have a recommendation about time I highly recommend CYBORG SHE 2008, Its a Japanese live action movie. Its underrated and only few knows about it. Youll be puzzled and be cried. If this movie will have a remake into an anime, it will beat YOUR NAME movie. Trust me
