Your Necromancer Build Is Bad Without This | Last Epoch Skill Deep Dive 1
In this video, I talk about Last Epoch's Necromancer and its best tool in its kit, Dread Shade. To make a Necro without Dread Shade would be to have Die Hard without Bruce Willis. It would be a lifeless husk, without any flavor. Recently EHG has been trying to reduce the mandatory power of this bombastic skill, but to no avail it is still the best skill Necro has access too.

My favourite build of all time is still the solo golem, dread shade retaliation build. It's not even close to as good as some of the other builds I've played but there is just something about it which is so satisfying.

My favourite necro build is actually a Profane Oblation boom skellies Deathloop build. Between Aura of Decay and Dread Shade, I prefer Aura of decay. Profane oblation is sick! It will keep your mana up, boom your skellies, summon volatile zombies and you deal a shit ton of necrotic damage and amass posion stacks quite fast. I haven't seen you do such a build, it's extremely fun!!

I quite strongly dislike how strong dread shade is. In my opinion, it is a very boring skill and feels just like a "skill slot tax". One good thing I can say is that it enables one minion army kind of style which feels distinct to play at least.

Great tagline, it got my attention even though I haven't been playing much LE recently. Instead I'm enjoying replaying Witcher 3 until the big July update. That said, I play a lot of minion builds in LE so i wanted to hear your thoughts.

But what if you wanna play minions, don't want to be melee, don't want annoying upkeep skills and what if playing dread shade increases likelihood of great sadness in my life? What if you have all of those requirements and still want a competitive build that can clear the endgame? Cause I feel that one of last epochs main issues is the lack of skills being strong on their own and many classes having "mandatory" skills that a big part of the player base find annoying. If dread shade had a cooldown or requirement for cast, like "collected souls" or some shit. Then if it was a summoned immortal minion that gave a more powerful buff for a short while after using the skill, and would have it's drain spread on all active minions, or something, and it'd not require targeting. Then uptime wouldn't require keeping an eye on an icon rather than actually play the game, then I feel it'd be a better spell... to me at least. I have the same issue with specters in PoE. They're basically mandatory in standard minion builds and what if I just don't wanna use them... Makes the game unfun to me when certain build types have certain mandatory skills they need to build around. At the end you're not playing a golem necromancer. You're playing a Dread Shade Necro using golems, or a Dread Shade Necro using dead uncles and aunts. Sadness! I just wanna summon minions and put curses on enemies, I don't wanna play "who gets the magical demon teddybear poltergeist now? No idea cause targeting makes me question the meaning of life and my need to chuck cheep vodka increases. Anyways, sorry for the rant. Just a lot of friends not playing the game for these reasons, as they feel pigeon holed into unfun upkeep self buffs on almost all classes and are just not having fun with it when alternative games exist.

If you don't want to use Dread Shade you should probably play Beastmaster or Falconer at this point

What's your opinion on skills that seem almost required for a build type to work?

I think it would be fine in a case like this, because Dread Shade is like the *identity* of Necromancer, while the same is the case for Lich Form for Lich, and Holy Aura for Paladin. I think there should be an option competing with Dread Shade, maybe a new Shade type that can't be used with it in some reason or another, but there is definitely room for some horizontal development.

I'm sure dread shade is good, if you can actually get it to stick. The targeting is so awful.
