I like your way of thinking. I added some copepods to help with my tanks ugly phase

I love copepods! But I had an out break of digitate hydroids. So I can place any copepods in the tank till they are gone. digitate hydroids eat copepods and they spread like wild fire.

It's better to think of them as opportunistic microbes.

That is a great way to think of them, still giving them some thought in the care of your aquarium will improve their survivability.
