I think if you are sandy soil. perhaps grow the native trees and shrubs and start a compost pile along with bio charcoal added to that compost pile. Once you have a sufficient time to compost and produce organic matter and charcoal added to it, you have a base to start with. Liquid fertilizer is also a good option where you rot the native trees, the lush green parts and use that to water as a quick energy mineral drink for the plants. I live in Dubai UAE and we have a saline sand. We successfully grew pomegranate and lot of other plants to have in our garden. Our soil was dark loam after 10 years.. Dubai is a saline sand especially closer to coast, and we successfully had salt removed by growing purslane which mine chlorides and sodium.
