@@Average_Roofer i was going to say there is about a 6-7 inch staircase as some call it between one shingle and the one right above it, the one right above it is back about 6 to 7 inches give or take, so if u stick the 2nd nail in only about 6 inches from the 1st nail, then when u put the next shingle up the end of that shingle may be right where that 2nd nail was put, I like what u do when u only have like 3 or 4 inches give or take from the end of the shingle to the end of the house, so u just put like a what 10-12 inch piece on and then a full one after it, instead of a lil chunker at the end.. sometimes u may still have to cut off some if it over hangs... if im saying that right... haa ive been with my company for like 3 yrs now,

One of the most common and significant challenges that roofers deal with on a daily basis is weather and environmental factors. Here's why: **Weather and Environmental Challenges:** 1. **Unpredictable Weather Conditions:** Roofing work is highly weather-dependent. Rain, snow, wind, and extreme temperatures can disrupt roofing projects, making it challenging to maintain consistent work schedules and deadlines. 2. **Safety Concerns:** Adverse weather conditions increase the risk of accidents and injuries for roofers working at elevated heights. Slippery surfaces and strong winds can compromise safety, necessitating extra precautions and sometimes leading to project delays. 3. **Material Durability:** Weather conditions can affect the durability of roofing materials over time. Intense sunlight, moisture, and temperature fluctuations can lead to premature deterioration, causing the need for repairs or replacements sooner than expected. 4. **Installation Challenges:** Extreme heat or cold can affect the installation of roofing materials, impacting their quality and longevity. Cold weather can make materials more brittle, while high temperatures can lead to adhesive issues. 5. **Inefficient Workdays:** Weather interruptions can lead to inefficiencies. Roofers might have to halt work midway, leading to loss of time and effort in setting up and packing tools and materials. 6. **Client Expectations:** Homeowners and businesses expect roofing projects to be completed within a reasonable timeframe. Weather-related delays can strain client relations and lead to customer dissatisfaction. 7. **Project Delays:** Prolonged weather-related disruptions can cascade into project delays, which can have financial and scheduling implications for both the roofing company and its clients. 8. **Emergency Repairs:** Severe weather events can lead to emergency repair requests from clients dealing with leaks or other damage. Roofers must respond promptly, even in challenging weather conditions. To address these challenges, roofing contractors need to carefully plan their schedules, monitor weather forecasts, take safety precautions, and communicate effectively with clients to manage expectations. Embracing technology, utilizing weather tracking tools, and having contingency plans in place can help mitigate the impact of weather-related challenges.

Quick question to you or anyone. When you put on your first roll of underlayment, do you overhang the paper into the eaves by 1-1/2"? (or whatever your overhang is. (Synthetic paper or ice and water) I usually just line it up with the fascia and have drip edge underneath it. Not overhanging the drip edge at all. Won't paper that overhangs cause water to stick to it more than it would with a shingle? Ive done it my way for the past 5 years and everyone else I know personally does it the same way. This guy I'm sub contracting for always does this and swears by it. If I don't do it he gets frustrated and says it's required by code (pretty sure it isn't) and goes on and on about how shingles aren't waterproof. In my mind I just see it as he does it to help line up the starter, which I wouldn't do because paper isn't 100% always going to lay flat. Aswell as I know how to run my starter straight with the shingles. He also overhangs his shingles going into the eavetroughs so much that it causes the shingles to curl downwards, which in my opinion looks dumb and I prefer a clean starter course not bending down.
@Greenfrom34 жыл бұрын
I don't overhang mine. But I have worked for crews that do.
