Stage Manager works magic with this mantra: 1. Always open 9 virtual desktops 2. Define each desktop for different purpose/activities 2. Set keyboard shortcut for those 9 desktops (Ctrl-1 to Ctrl 9) Bang!!! You have 9 monitors with 1 focus. Amazing macOS!

you are gonna shit yourself if you ever use linux with a tiling window manager.. lots more flexibility and no stupid slow animation between spaces

@@javiervera6318 Always tick "reduce motion" since the beginning. It much faster than any linux. Linux is just an OS. Mac hardware is much more competitive than choosing a distro+compatible winduz laptop. Don't get me wrong, I'm running my own Debian server.

I definitely like it, but I wish it was pushing even further into being similar to a tiling window manager.

I’m a software engineer too. There is no way you avoid using the wide screen and no way you only edit a single code file. I have the same widescreen and use it to have 2 or 3 or more files opened next to each other in my IDE.

Thank you! So many times when you do a search for a feature (like Stage Manager) pretty much ALL the videos talk about what it does, instead of actual practical uses for that feature. This is the kind of content we need more of 🙏

as a software engineer I discarded big monitors to keep my productive on small laptop screens, I don't like multi monitors its too much distraction and kind-a bit hard to navigate and organize everything. I have a 13" macbook pro; I forced Stage manager on my 28" monitor as well but its too buggy. Sometimes windows disappear, resizing is buggy when you have stage manager enabled and stage manager is not designed for big monitors, I fully agree with that. as a setup, I utilze multiple desktops on big screen and on-the-go with small screen just utilize the stage manager helps a lot to keep things organized. even multi desktop is kinda bit hard on macos because cmd+tab is global not desktop specific and when you click the icon on the dock for an app it jumps you all over the place. I want multiple browser windows open on multiple desktops but kinda bit hard on mac

I have a 1 monitor setup I use stage manager occasionally- I think Sonoma may implement it much better, I’ve yet to try it- but what I tend to do is make every app full screen, then just four finger swipe from screen to screen. That allows huge windows, great focusing and I feel much easier window management.

Nothing beats multiple monitors and ability to control them without leaving the keyboard (i3/yabai). It’s good you’re enjoying it but for me it’s productivity killer.

I have literally been thinking about the point you raised about more screens leads to more opportunities of being distracted! I've been guilty of leaving chrome tabs open on the side of my ultrawide monitor when I don't need them. It doesn't help that now I'm one step ahead of going to KZbin. Interesting how ultrawide monitors are positioned as productivity tools but they can easily become time wasters

is there a way to make the space it occupies on the side smaller? Im losing real estate, or is there a way to make the windows take up all the available space , aside from manual resizing,

I came across this video because I could not get into Stage Manager and though, maybe I'm using it wrong and I only need the right guidance. I still don't think I will use it but likely I'm not the target audience for this feature. I think you can group people in keyboard- and mouse/trackpad-users. And I think stage manager is for the latter. If you use shortcuts to switch between windows or apps, stage manager is not an improvement. But if you don't use shortcuts and mainly use your mouse/trackpad, which I see a lot of people doing these days, this feature will help you. Also I think, they could improve the window sizing when enabling stage manager. But i think this is a general issue of macOS and not related to the stage manager.

Seems like it would be awesome to use on an ultra wide for window management, plus you won't miss that horizontal space. But also, as a developer, why aren't you using cmd-tab/`?
@chocolatemilk12411 ай бұрын
Yeah this. Stage manager should arrange itself in the same order as cmd+tab. Then it becomes like an always on cmd+tab with live preview, which I would totally use. Right now its just optimized for mouse

I had not thought of just using the small preview thingy to look at live changes in the frontend. Good thing macs have very high resolution... I just wish They had a 16-17 incher macbook without all the power (and price) of the current 16 inch lineup. I'm considering moving to the 15 inch MBA from my 14 inch MBP because I could actually make a small profit from the switch, and end up with a more portable, larger display. Thoughts?

1. Freeform does not complete with Figma and workspaces in figma are also a totally different thing. If anything its like FigJam by Figma. 2. As a full stack dev... you didnt explain why a fullstack dev actually benefits here. Thats been my role for the past 7 years, and i still dont understand your point. The code you were showing also did not depict a "react component" that looks like some react-email handler function with a component passed into it.

I agree that for some fast paced changes to the browser, a second monitor is a must. But besides that, for some people, doing Cmd/Alt+Tab is not the end of the world. Some people work by batch. They’re not going to check their browser at every character they input in their IDE … I’ve seen very productive people work on one screen, it’s enough of a proof in itself for me.

Stage Manager is the most useless, inconvenient system of managing sessions. You are always limited to a set number of apps for each view, and oftentimes apps will CRASH if you are doing too much. Anyone who thinks Stage Manager is useful should be widely ignored, as nobody has build a competent argument in favor Stage Manager, nor is it possible to form a competent argument to support Stage Manager. Stage Manager has to be destroyed! iPads should he more like Macs rather than miserable experiences!

@Unduplicatable Жыл бұрын
@@Ewang2727 Yeah it’s pretty upsetting when you pay over a thousand dollars for a tablet that is supposed to be insanely powerful, yet a 2011 Macbook Pro with an SSD is still faster and can run more browser tabs and apps all at once. And yes, I am talking about the M2 iPad Pro 12.9” that is literally worse than a 2011 i5 Macbook Pro.
@giedi76449 ай бұрын
although stage manager was meant for the iPad, it is still a 7/10 feature on the mac. Stage manager does require to change the standard macos multitasking/window management principle 1. No need to have more than 4 virtual desktop as those different stages acts as a mini and always visible virtual desktop 2.Work better on bigger screen as having the thumbnail preview makes window switching faster than mission control 3. Close unused windows but keep the application running, thus you need the dock to be always visible allowing to stay aware of which apps are open 4.cmd+` is a good keyboard shortcut to switch to different windows in the same stage, and use the setting for only one window at a time for an application. 5. Safari tab groups makes for a great combination as you can have less windows and less tabs in the same window, reducing on clutter, there is keyboard shortcut to switch tab groups 6. Lastly I don't recommend resizing windows too often as its not necessary, stage manager decides a respectable size of the newly open window, but can be a pain at times.... the terminal window it opens is too small. Don't quit apps to often as stage manager don't remember which stages it was is set to But honestly if you use your mac only for coding then use a tilling window manager instead, but even those aren't perfect on macos, there will be several apps that you will blacklist them in your config so that it does not tile automatically such as system settings and app store.
