In'75, a 64 was my first car. 500 bucks. 45 years later, go me another one. All stock 40hp. Very reliable if you take all the china parts off and stick to Solex, Bosch, Pierburg.👍

I drive my 1970 Beetle to work every day and it goes great on the freeway at 75 mph. Been driving it 44 years. 95 to 100 degrees in summer and -20 in winter. I do wear a hat, coat and gloves to keep toasty when the weather is 35 or lower. In the high elevation of the Colorado Rocky mountains it loses some power, but it's still fun to drive on the way up to go backpacking.

That's awesome. Its been a great car and addition to my VW fleet. I have a '75 and a '69 as well as this one. I inherited my grandfather's bug when I was 17 years old and have had at least one air cooled in my fleet ever since. Wish I never sold that '74. That's the only car I regret selling. Have a great week.

Get the fuel filter out of the engine compartment near coil and replace all fuel hoses and clamp them. Great car!
@yourbeekeeper Жыл бұрын
There is not a way to get the filter out of the engine compartment unless you put it up front at the tank...and then the fuel will travel about 12~13' down a steel fuel line before it hits the firewall and through about 24" of rubber fuel line, a fuel pump and then into the carb. Filters are best placed just before the carb. .

Nice looking Bug. I have a 1970 Bug but I need to have some body work done, front apron, both fenders without the turn signal holes, bumper with turn signals, hood, maybe front quarter panels, etc. It's been in my family for over 30years but towing it from NC my hitch broke and into a tree. I started to junk it until I changed the fuel filter and it started right up. It's funny because I've owned this Bug for 5 years and started buying parts but not until today I found the fenders so once I return back to work from injury I'm putting my Bug back together. Stay blessed and enjoy your Bug.

You mentioned your car is loud- you are missing the engine compartment insulation. This makes a big difference. Also check to see if the insulating pillows are in the C Pillars. Also make sure all of the floor insulation is there. It may have been removed when the interior was done. The stock tailpipes with baffles are also going to be quieter than the straight pipes. A vw is not as quiet on the highway as a modern car but for a small imported car it wasn’t bad for its time and shouldn’t be horrible today.

@yourbeekeeper2 жыл бұрын
You're right on that... the AC is not an issue with me...but this old car is slow by comparison to modern vehicles... everyone out here drives 85+ mph regardless of the 65 mph limit... this car is maxed out at 70mph
@michaelconverse5127 Жыл бұрын
They aren’t scary on the highway. If they are in proper condition they will run 70mph all day long. They were designed with freeway speeds in mind from the beginning.

Thanks Karl. Turns out I had a pesky vacuum leak that was causing all my issues. Through many hours, I eventually removed the intake manifold and found a crack along a weld on the back. ugh. I repaired the crack and it's running quite well at the moment.

The only reason I had to go through all these steps is because I was resurrecting a Title on a vehicle that was salvaged due to the accident. Fortunately, these inspections are not ongoing.

@yourbeekeeper2 жыл бұрын
It had a lot of back registration fees, it was involved in an accident, still needed the body work as well as the long and complicated DMV process to resurrect the title. It also had been sitting for around 12-years so there were mechanical issues that needed fixing in relation to sitting for so long.

I have a 69 that I loved, still love....but some idiot hit me in a parking lot and his insurance Co. salvaged my car here in California. I let the reg accumulate and accumulate and accumulate, I now have to pay back reg and get the inspections you mentioned also, thanx for the tips, my 69 was my daily up until the guy hit me, being into vw's for many years, 69 is much newer than I wanted but at the time than I wanted

Much newer than I wanted but at the time was all I could afford, I can't stress how much I actually loved that 69 after owning and driving on the daily, I can't wait to get it back on the road again but I think I may have to start a go fund me page lol as CA. Back reg. fees are so steep now here in Ca.
