I dunno about Kaito. I think the idea is that you're not supposed to know for sure if he returned Maki's feelings. He did agree to a murder plan to save her from being the blackened and facing execution and he blindly trusted her when no one else did. I'm not saying he had romantic feelings, but his focus on her implies some pretty strong feelings toward her regardless.

Not really tho, the only thing that's crystal clear are Maki's feelings. As for the hugs and stuff, he almost did the same thing with Kaede (remember how he asked for a hug but she said no?) so it could be that Kaito just acts like that, you can give hugs, nicknames and support people because you want to be a nice person to them, not necessarily because you're attracted. I ship Momoharu, but sadly there's not enough evidence to make it cannon from Kaito's side, I wish there was.

I keep hearing about how Akane was originally going to be the rival character of DR2 before being replaced by Nagito, but is there an actual viable source that confirms it? Or is it purely speculation because of the amount of promotional material that she appears in prior to the game's release? Also, that fact about Kirumi can't be true. Neir Automata was released in Japan a little over a month after Danganronpa V3 was released, and the latter had already been in development since 2016. Also, that “so what?” was NOT in regard to you having a lot on your plate, it was in regard to the fact that you apparently forgotten the source of where you got your info, but could still recite the info word per word, which I found hard to believe.

Some explanations for some of these: (Also, I'm the one who gave the fun fact of Fuyuhiko :O LOOK IT'S ME-) Kaito never answered Maki not necessarily because he didn't feel the same, we'll never know, because he COULD NOT answer. If he said it was mutual, Kaito would die and Maki would feel like if she had confessed sooner things could have been different. If Kaito rejected her, he would embarass Maki in front of everyone and she would be forever thinking about how she was rejected by the only person she fell in love with before he DIED. So in resume, both possibilities of answers would have affected Maki's mental health and I think Kaito choose to not say anything. Resembling Kaito's execution, every student is executed eith the things they love, and not only that, EVERY execution is made to mock those who are dying. Kaede's execution song is a begginer's song in piano that is REALLY easy to play, but Monokuma made her play poorly, mocking her piano skills. Kaede is just an example, but every blackned is mocked during their execution. Kokichi mentions inumerous "weeb" things in his freetime events, like yu-gi-oh and Evangellion. He is an otaku LOLL

This. About the Kaito thing, I mean. It seemed pretty obvious to me that he couldn't have answered because he would have broken her heart either way. What makes it more tragic is that, if he did return her feelings, it would have been really painful for him not to be able to say so. That's probably why I prefer to think he did. It makes for a sadder love story that way and I'm messed up like that.
