a neat solution that I did with my Wand Company radio in the PipBoy 2000 was to get a small bluetooth FM transmitter and then you can use that to play anything you want from a phone etc 😅

This really does look like a high effort product from a modifiable/serviceable stand point, all the rheostats are easily replaceable, all external components have decent connectors that plug into the main board and the battery looks pretty standard, easy to replace. The fact that the internal storage is just an SD card opens up all sorts of option for fun too mods too, such a cool device with endless opportunities.

Do you have any suggestions on increasing the device's FM reception when not plugged in? It's a really cool feature, but the antenna being in the USB connector really brings down signal quality when it's docked into its port.

If it is in the USB, connecting it to another USB should extend that signal. Light adding wire to an antennae

Appreciate the swift response! I've managed to find a unique solution to the problem. By gently tucking a charging cable between the connector and the device's housing, and then slipping the other end up my sleeve, I've managed to harness my own conductivity to amplify the device's signal strength, as I'm standing on the ground. The cable isn't powered as it's not plugged into anything, so I don't believe there's any risk of injury. Do let me know if this is hazardous, though!

Just raw wires on the USB pass link... wow. They could have used 24 gauge instead of what looks like 30 gauge wire as well. They could have bundled them too. Even a simple stereo audio link cable would yield 5 discreet conductors to do a better job than that (electrical) mess.

I've dumped the nand and was digging into it and see a crc check failure in a few different sections. I'm hoping I can get a good dump or get a new nand and patch in the crc portion. Tip: If you have a 3D printer nossle cleaning pin, a clean one fits perfectly into the hole ad is just strong enouh to press the reset button. I will be cloning my SSD and then using a copy, see about customizing my OS and i may make a video when i do.

Can you transfer files just by plugging in the Pipboy, instead of taking it apart just to get the SD Card? Also could you do a tutorial on the SD card/Pipboy? Like how to add other things on the SD Card/Pipboy, say music, soundtracks and (pictures) etc? Btw I got mine yesterday and the USB charging cable socket plug thingy to the Pipboy was really loose. When I swing my arms a little or shake a little it comes out. I actually modified that part- adding a couple of magnets with super glue.

Kinda hope in layer updates they add the ability to change the colour of the screen like you can in the games, also add in some holotape games, but thats wishful thinking

You should try exFAT and see if that CPU reads it. Even FAT32 might be readable by it. Makes me wonder also if it might be readable in a Linux file format. I saw the fw.js file... looks like a java script firmware upgrade file? Does that carry the code itself or just the "engine" for installing an update? I have a little RPi tank I played with for a bit... I will be so happy when *my* Pip-boy shows up 2 months early this week! I am so happy that it is not a lame implementation and that we see some good mimic-ed functionality. Does it link during gameplay to show proper stats and maps data, etc.? I was all ready to go out and find a fitting FPD and make my own insert for behind a clear bubble I was sure it was going to be. I am so glad that it will actually be worth the money I paid. I might change out that USB line though. I like bigger gauge wiring and also SPC teflon, both of which I have lots of.

@@YourGeekFix Just tried it. Sadly, the radio connection is still iffy. It only works if it's facing the right direction, and even then, it's not that great.

Got mine today, and it picked up a few of the large stations nearby. Wasn't crisp and clear, but I almost like it sounding lo-fi. Makes it feel more authentic.
