Thank you very much for the video - one of a kind! Anecdotally, it does seem that the Germans around me prefer to use Präteritum to build the Passive sentence instead of the Perfekt when speaking. This goes against the unexplainable German idiosyncrasy of "Perfekt mündlich aber Präteritum schriftlich". I was wondering what your thoughts were on the matter! Why do German speakers prefer Präteritum for Passive sentences but Perfekt for Active sentences when speaking?
@yourgermanteacher3 жыл бұрын
Sehr gerne 😊👍🙏 That's a good question. I think the reason is the verb. Normally most verbs sound too formal in Präteritum, that's why perfect tense is used in spoken language. But there are certain verbs we use in Präteritum, e.g. modal verbs or haben & sein ... . And it doesn't sound formal or weird. 1) Ich war letzte Woche im Schwimmbad. 2) Ich bin letzte Woche im Schwimmbad gewesen. Both sentences are correct. But I'd prefer the first option (Präteritum). But it's just a personal preference. I think with "wurden" in passive it is somehow similar. It's common to use this verb in Präteritum and it doesn't sound weird or too formal. I also think that the region where people come from might influence what they prefer to use in passive voice. 🙂👍🙏

So we can use either Passiv Präteritum or Passiv Perfekt freely without thinking of story writing or in speaking like in Activformen?

As always, another great video, thanks! One question please. I've been doing some B1 practice on a Grammatiktrainer and it requires in a multiple choice format, to differentiate between the Passiv Perfekt sentence and a Passiv Präteritum sentence. They will usually include a correct sentence from each, but it's hard for me to differentiate between the sentence focusing on a "result of an action" (Perfekt) vs the "focus on the process itself" (Präteritum). Any thoughts on a way to "easily" differentiate? I hope that makes sense. : )

Halli Hallo👋🏻 The explanation was so clear. I just have one tiny question. Where is "worden" coming from? Das Buch ist 2015 veröffentlicht worden. It's supposed to be the PP of werden but in my conjugation app i can't find worden in any tenses 😭 Or it's just always plus "worden" in that case? z.B. Die Blume ist gesossen worden. Der Audi ist gestern repariert worden. usw.
@yourgermanteacher3 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋🙂 "worden" is the pp of the "auxiliary verb werden" . That's maybe why your conjugation app can't find it. I guess your app shows "geworden". That's the pp of the verb "werden" when used as a normal verb with the meaning of "to become" . In the bonus tip at the end of the video this is explained in more detail. 🙂👍🙏

Hey Mr.Johannes dumb question maybe hhh,at the end you used Werden as Geworden,so Question why it's not used in Passiv?i mean Z.b gewaschen geworden!!!!!is it a grammatically thing! geworden in Passiv is Worden!?
@yourgermanteacher4 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for your question. 🙂 Yes, you are right...it's a grammatical thing. 🙏👍 "Werden" can be used to form passive and in this case it's an "auxiliary verb" which uses the Past Participle "worden" . Das Haus ist gebaut worden. But "werden" can also be used as a "normal verb" which has in most cases the meaning of "become" . The conjugation is the same like in passive but the Past Participle is different: "geworden" Ich bin Lehrer geworden. I became a teacher. You could consider them as two different verbs: one is used for grammar (for example passive) and the other one is for something that changed its status mostly translated "become". I hope my explanation helps 🙏☺️🇩🇪

"gedreht" is the "Partizip 2" of "drehen" and "worden" is the Partizip 2 of werden which is used for passive voice. But to form perfect tense you still need an "auxiliary Verb" as well. In passive voice the "auxiliary verb" is always a form of "sein". Like in normal active sentence in perfect tense: Ich "bin" mit dem Auto gefahren. Ich "habe" meine Hausaufgaben gemacht. I hope it helps. 🙂👍🙏

There is no real future tense for passive voice. Or at least it's rarely used. Hey had a doubt if u r saying the book was published in 2015 it's already done so will it not be zustandpassive?.
@yourgermanteacher4 жыл бұрын
This sentence is a bit tricky indeed. In German this sentence is in Vorgangspassiv, although translated to English it might seem like a "status". In German this sentence describes the "act" (action) of publishing the book which was going on in the past, therefore it's Vorgangspassiv: werden/wurden + Partizip 2. The grammar of Zustandspassiv is different: auxiliary verb "sein" + Partizip 2. I hope this helps. 🇩🇪👍🙏
