What Length To Wear Straight, Wide, Crop and Flare Leg Jeans & Pants With 4 Different SPRING Shoes

I guess I'm just from that generation that always considered shorter pants as "high waters" and therefore can't bring myself to wear any pants that show my ankles (especially wide legs!). It's funny, but my opinion on which option looked better tended to run opposite to yours. Go figure. 🤷‍♀️ Good thing there are options for everyone! Thanks for sharing your ideas! ❤

Same here. My generation said pants should hit the top of the foot and "break" properly. The shorter ones definitely look funny to me, too.

I agree.. I’m personally looking forward the short pant trend to be gone. It’s even worse that it’s the style for men to wear their dress pants tapered and short. Longer hems are just hotter on everyone.

When I was in my teens I wouldn't wear them because of the association to "growing out of clothes as a young person and needing a new pair" that was still fresh in my mind... And I thought it looked funny and hated it with a passion then and would be annoyed at my clothes that I hadn't updated yet. However it no longer has that connotation to me as I've been done growing for a very long while. Now it's just a stylistic choice. However there are some styles that I can definitely think... Wow. They cut off too much. Done right it somehow makes one look taller.

I love your content - fan for a long time. My only qualm about pants is the "crop". I am a taller woman (5'-9") over 50, and I guess I have memories of my pants being too short - but not on purpose! I just don't get the crop look either!!! I definitely will not be sporting it!

Thank you for sharing your opinion and all the options. Thankfully, we have options. Being someone who doesn’t like “high water” pants, the shorter lengths have never appealed to me. With due respect, I’m not sure why there’s a need to “show skin”. I’m 5’8” with long legs, so a 29” inseam is where I draw the line on “short” even for a skinny or straight leg. Fuller legs must be 31” or longer depending on heel height.

I don’t see the need to show skin at the ankle, either, that was a only a trend that lasted a few years. Some people are so stuck there that they will never wear longer pants that cover the ankle, or any visible socks. The current trend is for longer, fuller-legged pants that go nearly to the floor. I just kept on wearing socks it if was cold, I won’t sacrifice practicality and comfort for a trend.🙂

It’s great to find a stylist with an inseam as short as mine! I’m also 5’4” and I agree, the slightly longer length (comparing the first two straight-leg styles), does give the impression of longer legs. The eye tends to take in the leg of the trousers as the length of the leg.

I agree the longer pair is more elongating and classier as well. The wide leg pants look good in a shorter length though.. even with ballet flats which I usually despise.

You must have been reading my mind! I have been struggling with a beautiful new pair of wider-leg trousers...everyone I see wears them almost puddling on the ground, but it makes me feel frumpy and like they are just too big. Problem is I have now had them hemmed twice by two different tailors and they are still too long in my opinion! I HAVE to wear heels with them when I think they'd look better with sneakers or ballet flats, but they seem too long for that. I guess both tailors felt they knew the style better than me - haha! Trousers and jeans can stretch out a bit in the first hour of wear, then tend to ride a little lower. I have this problem a lot, and it might be affecting you, too. I would pin the trousers an inch shorter, or whatever you feel is right, then just have them shortened by that amount. )If you think they are worth the third tailoring fee). Really, trouser legs only have to cover at least 2/3 of the heel you’re wearing to look right, and your opinion is more important than a tailor’s. I think the wider the trouser leg, the trickier the length is, but wear them anyway.🙂

Shorter hemlines near the ankles and clunky shoes/sneakers exponentially enlarge the appearance of feet that are big to start with! Designers/manufacturers are offering shorter inseams because there are limits to what can be changed in jeans. People love jeans-make them wider or tighter, longer or shorter. That’s all they’ve got to work with.

I like all styles of trousers except for “cropped flares”, which I think looks dorky and doesn’t flatter anyone. As a petite, I’m so tired of having to hem every single pair of trousers. I love it when I can get ankle-length ones, they’re full-length on me!

How about if I am 1,58 cm which is I think 5 feet 2 inches ? I am always confused how to ear flare pants not only flare jeans . Some flare pants are not full length from Zara so should I avoid them if not can I wear them with Pointed shoes with heels ?

There are crop flares and full length flares. The crop should hit you just a little above your ankle. Just make sure you wear shorter tops with them to give you better proportions since you are shorter. The full length should be fine the way I demonstrated them in the video. You may have to hem them a little but that would be fine!

Question…how do you incorporate wearing socks with sneakers/trainers and length of pants. It is still cold in the high desert of California (40’s-50’s) and it is too soon to wear no show socks.

For me, I would not wear a sock that was higher than an no-show unless I was in my athleisure outfits. Some people wear cute socks with their ankle jeans outfits and I think you just have to be comfortable doing that.

I agree with Kimberly. Wear socks that match your pants and shoes. If you're wearing cropped pants, consider trouser socks (knee-highs for adults) or tights.

@@YourGuideToStyle You are not going to believe this. I tried the jeans on over the pants I had on. Then when I went to wear them, something just wasn't right. They're a 6! I usually wear Walmart 4. I'm going to take them back. They're just too big!🤦‍♀️ I didn't have enough time to look for someone to open dressing room. Then they have to find someone with the key. I thought I had gained weight. Don't know how I ended up getting a 6? Did they not have a 4. I thought I couldn't wear a 4? Gotta take them back. I just watched shop with me H&M. So much to do about Jeans. I loathe Jeans & I have since I was very young. I am an old lady now so it does not matter. I hate the feel of Jeans on my skin. So uncomfortable. So completely un feminine . This is solely my opinion. I know they have been around for many decades different styles different lengths. Please tell me what makes them so flattering?

Jeans go with every style or colour of top (shirts, t-shirts, crop tops...), can be dressed up or down, are hard-wearing, wash easily, don't always need ironing, have useful pockets, don't feel too hot or cool on the skin... A wonderful invention, thank you Mr Levi Strauss!
