A random Korean man wouldn't leave me alone | Controversial topic, did I do something wrong?

I shared this event on TikTok the other day (the man approaching me), and I think some people misunderstood it since I didn't put up the whole conversation. I did tell the guy "no" in Korean at least 3 times, that I have a bf, and showed him how awkward he made the situation (there were many silent moments that you don't see because it'd be too boring to include in this video). I think people on TikTok were quick to blame me and say I could've reacted better. Thinking back now, of course, I could've done things differently such as being more firm to begin with so he probably wouldn't stay for that long. I usually want to be nice to people I don't know, and there was honestly no danger when he just asked for my number, but as he pushed it for 10 minutes after I told him no and I have a bf, I thought it could become a potentially dangerous situation - so giving him my IG was the quickest way to make him leave. My IG is public anyway-
Hojun and I are all good which is all that matters, and he didn't think I did wrong. Also the guy didn't reach out to me (if so, I would've blocked him).

this happens a lot in korea and they dont care if you have a girlfriend or not, a friend of mine had this issue too and the guy kept asking for her number and following her. She eventually had to run from him in the middle of the night alone in the subway station and he kept running after her, until she luckily found a korean couple that helped her and talked to the guy saying they would call the cops if he didnt leave. I dont know why this happens but it does a lot and many guys usually already have a girlfriend and they still want your number to cheat.

She carries the ring because for some reason, if you tell them you are married they go away, but if you say you have a boyfriend they keep insisting, so now she always tell them she is marired and shows her ring.

The best thing to do in these situations is to just stare at them (they know that by now you will be able to identify them) and say no to all their questions, don't even say sorry it shows them you pity them and they will take advantage of that. If they keep persisting say someone is expecting to meet you or say you will call the police if they don't leave.i know it's very hard and itz completely understandable if you can't but these are just some tips :)

I've seen too many video's on TikTok about foreigners getting harassed or being followed by the men there. Just as a safety precaution since he added you on Instagram and you blocked him, try not to post in real time because you just never know at this point. In fact I think that we should redefine "kindness". You are kind as long as you are hearing yourself and respect your inner voice. This happened to me once too and I was literally so young like 14-15ish and this older guy came up to me and started saying he wanted to be friends. He even brought along his friend or smth and kept insisting me to give my number. I was actually so surprised and shocked and went blank. He even tried intimidating me saying he’s been observing me at the park everyday so I ended up giving him my insta id and left so quick. Still such a creepy thing.

This happened to me and my sister the first time we went for a vacation in Seoul. There were these 2 college students who cut our way while we were walking back to our house in Hannam-Dong. They were inviting us to have tea or coffee somewhere. They said they were taking up English classes so they wanted to practice speaking it with foreigners. I just graduated from college and my sister was in high school. They were very persistent, even though we told them that we don't talk to strangers and our parents were waiting for us. They finally gave up. I know they mean no harm, but still it's scary. You'll never know. I'm speaking in general here.

Glad that guy left. I stranger handed me his phone number and name on a piece of paper as I was walking home one night. I immediately go into a convenient store and ask my dad to come pick me up. I would leave right away and find a place where there are people and ask for help. Don’t stay alone.

I know how that feels :( random guy asked for my number once, i told him i hve boyfriend, and still doesn't leave me alone, so i gave him wrong number (jst one wrong number), and he call it right in front of me. Then told me that the number doesn't exist, so i told him the right one :( after that he finally leave me. Then I block him after that :) but he called me again and again with different numbers :(. My bf then called him with my phone, they talk for minutes, idk what my bf said, but after that no one call me again :).

Yikes... I hope this is not too much information but stay safe girl. Tw // sexual assault I was sexually assaulted in South Korea. Some guys there can be EXTREMELY persistent. He followed me around the club after assaulting me until my friends yelled at him and he retreated. I didn't want to report to the guard bc I could not speak Korean and wanted to avoid misunderstandings so I just did what I could. I still love SK and i am aware that many SK women and foreign women in SK have probably experienced the same. It can be scary but I hope that you will continue to have a good experience there.
