you can also do. x + y = 19 and .05x + .10y = 1.65 then use the elimination method

@BloodAndRainbows13 yes you would distribute the 10 and when you do this is what you get: 5x + 10(19-x)=165 5x+190-10x=165 combine like terms, 5x -10x leaves you -5x -5x + 190=165 subtract 190 from both sides -5x =-25 divide both sides by negative 5 x=5

Let x = amount of nickels Let 19-x = amount of dimes There are a total of 19 coins, rights? Now since there are 19 coins, you are just trying to solve using one variable. In this case, lets just solve for a number of nickels. If you have x = amount of nickels and 19-x = amount of dimes, you are basically reduce the amount of nickels in the total amount of coins that you have. What ever you have left is the amount of dimes. Got it?

U want to get X For the answer of total each type of coine.. So u juz write down the culculation by starting from X. U also can put like this : 5(19-x) + 10x = 165 95-5x + 10x = 165 95+5x = 165 5x = 165-95 5x=70 X=14 Which mean nickles 5 dimes 14. There are 2 posibilites answer.. By 2 way calculation.. Either dimes 5 or 14 and nickels 14 or 5... U get total 19 also..
