Coach, This is great! Thank you for sharing! I do have a question. for the "on" in GOO, or GOLD, or any of the acronyms with "on" what do you classify as "on"? Head on head? When does On the Guard become inside gap for the Tackle? I hope this question makes sense. This is honestly an AMAZING resource

Great question. ON is dlm head up with most of dlm body on the olm. The OT would check with OG before moving from iGap to ON on with his rule if he's not sure.

The Center is helping the Guards with biggest baddest person and or dealing with hean up NG or finding a lb. But mainly getting great snap off and helping guards protect A gaps.

I have a 3/4 football team. I’m really wanting to implement a blocking scheme, because like you said the “block someone” isn’t good coaching. I’m wanting to try and use 1 scheme since my kids are so young. I run the I formation. Do you think GOD scheme would be my best bet? Thanks, coach

Ya GOD works good or I have a term I use JAW for Crocodile Jaw. Everyone inside track blocks inside down and eats up the defense in the crocodile JAWS. This is easy to remember for younger players. I use my arms out stretched to demonstrate a JAW eating up the players.

question if you have a team where the availability drastically differs, meaning I have 8 linemen and I do not know which ones will show up to practice and they rotate a lot what blocking scheme do you focus on

Rule blocking like GOD or GOLD, track blocking left or right. Or my jaw track. That way it doesn't matter what scheme, player they just track or rule block.

Hey Coach! How do you avoid adding too much to each individual play call? I understand the blocking schemes but do you also just add it to every play call when you call them? Or is it a separate time where you communicate to the Lineman during games?

It is added to the end of the play call. A few times we have had a separate oline huddle and signaled in the blocking call. Example - Pie Rt 28 Stretch Sweep GOLD on XXX

Hi coach great video I'm a first-year coach this year for our 10U Pop Warner division a lot of Our Line guys are just getting blown off the ball and Defender is buy them in the backfield I've been trying to tell my other assistant coaches that we are allowed to grab on and lock up underneath the front chest of the shoulder pads but they're worried about holding penalties also what about the crab block or the low block(not the illegal chop block) which could help slow down a bull rushing Defender

Hi Coach, thanks for your questions. Yes, you need to engage the Defender with short trex hands inside the shoulder pad area. Then you can steer the Defender. If Defender pulls away you must release the engaged hands. You can look at some of the tip of the spear info too about shoulder pad engagement. Here is a good resource link to start you on your blocking quest coachparker.org/offense/coaching-offensive-line-in-youth-football/ Yes, the crab block / bear crawl / scramble block is awesome especially in the A Gaps. Yes make sure another offensive player does not touch the crabbed defender otherwise a chop block penalty. Also check your gap splits and make sure you are stepping inside gap first. I literally have 1 legit lineman then a bunch of cb type bodies. What type of blocking and formation do you recommend for a team that small?

Angle Blocking will work best. Gap On Down, JAW, Severe Angle Block / SAB. I would suggest a Single Wing either UBSW / Beast or ND Box type offense.
