Shawn's reputation as the "greatest in-ring performer of all time" was earned between '95 & '97, and still proved true when he returned in the early 2000s till his retirement. But during the Rockers' run and at the time of the split, Marty was the better wrestler. After the split, Shawn evolved, Marty didn't.

Marty’s biggest problem, besides the obvious self imploding, is that he never really left the rockers. Same music, same look, same way of running to the ring, same moves, etc. There was no chance of that ever working on his own.

True. After The Barber Shop, creative immediately changed Shawn's look into the "Sexy Boy", but Marty basically stayed the same. Hell, when they teamed him with Al Snow they even called them the "New Rockers".

What’s funny is when he returned from the barber shop injuries and beat Shawn’s ass before a match, he was wearing jeans and that sweet Guns N Roses shirt. Could have been a different change for him, but no. It was back to the tassels when he wrestled, haha.

Mr DiBiase obviously doesn't know this. But I met him backstage in Philly along with the other guys in the late 80s.. I was 8 or 9 and it was one of the best moments of my childhood...Ted was one of the first ones I saw when we walked through the curtain.. I'll never forget it.

When they split, Shawn got sherri, a new entrance theme, new look and new character. Marty had the same theme, same costume, same everything. He was still a rocker and shawn was something else.

Yeah in the 80's Marty was a little better but by mid 90's Shawn had surpassed Marty in every aspect of wrestling...mat work, high flying, chain wrestling, psychology etc. Shawn was better.

Marty was the more experienced guy when they were a team, and so was better in those days, helping Shawn mature in the ring. But Marty didn't mature outside of the ring. And that held him back. Shawn became the better "sports entertainer".

Can you just think what MJ story's would be coming out if it was the million dollarman marty jennetty was a character it may have been a short run or iron sheik been given that role too haha . When you watch marty jennetty run he is a stronger wrestler and out preformed shawn in the rockers but Marty has admitted he suffers from bi polar etc so he may have struggled alot more then shawn on not being tempted to do things that will get you fired or in the bad books. Shawn has stronger promo skills then marty i would say If Marty was pushed the same way to shawn was marty may have not handled it as well as shawn and shawn did not handle being on that high level well and went off the rails and marty might have went more extreme in if he was the WWE champ

Marty could have benefitted from a new gimmick to push him into evolving. Left his devices, he'll do the same thing and partying.

Marty was about 2 inches shorter than Shawn and I think that hurt him. But boy, put Marty and Shawn in the same red t shirt with jeans as the Barber Shop and Marty looks better in street clothes every day hands down. They should have given Marty the ripped jeans and combat boots in ring look and he would have skyrocketed.

Marty was a better gymnast and in ring technician. Shawn was better with manipulating crown emotion. Shawn was a better salesman. Shawn had all the charisma.

Marty had the in ring ability equal to Shawn the only thing was Shawn was more charismatic

IMO Marty was the better in-ring worker (not that Shawn was any slouch. He is one of THE all-time greats of pro-wrestling), but agreed that Shawn was a lot more charismatic and his mic work was a lot better. Also being younger and blonde definitely worked in his favor. Even in his 30's Marty's face was looking old from the partying and drugs.
