YouTube Hates Adult Collecting Channels

Ironically, I started watching this channel because it was one of the least kiddie Transformers channel I've come across.

It’s upsetting that regardless of YOU knowing your audience they can set you to whatever THEY want and kill your potential audience. I’ve had a couple pf friends who had 3D printing channels and those were also killed by KZbin

Happened to me several times, i dispute it. If they declined the dispute I delete and reupload my shorts.

I am a Tiny channel. I have had a few videos do well, but then the next video isn't even shown to people by KZbin. The platform hates all the small creators.

Super annoying! I’ve heard multiple KZbinrs have the same problem. I love your channel! You do amazing work and really bring G1 into a fond perspective.

12:46 I don't do thumbnails I let KZbin Do It For Me. Whatever the thumbnail is during my video is that's what it is. The title is the only thing I work on. Also I post whatever I feel like. And I tried little bits and pieces here and there to see if it works or not.

Hey, I just wanna say that I found your channel from that video essay and really enjoyed it. I'm a college Freshman now and I grew up on the original G1 cartoon. I own the DVDs for the series along with the 1986 movie. Love transformers, and I plan to stick to your channel. Looking forward to your future videos! I'm also curious as to whether or not you've watched Transformers One and your thoughts on it.

10:32 also everybody's is watching shorts instead of the long videos. So I'm thinking maybe cut off a clip of your video and put it as a short. And if people are interested in the short they'll go to your channel and watch the whole video. The shorts are taking over KZbin. 😢

2:09 I think I understand. You see Transformers cartoon back in the 80s was made for children. And always has been. So when you have clips of the Transformers KZbin knows that it's a cartoon for children. Therefore it makes the assumption that it's for kids. You cannot post clips of the cartoon. That's probably why. Cartoon creators or the copyrights people are getting very strict. So yeah.

I think this is a problem for all the smaller channels. I've been trying so hard to push my art - especially my novel, one short does somewhat well, the other is basically dead. Never gets shown, no matter what I do. It is very frustrating and demotivating

Heartbreaking that KZbin is making you struggle. I really enjoy your vids. Would the algorithm be able to pick up harsh language? Maybe if you yelled "cunt" at the start of each video they won't flag it as children's content anymore.

6:49 well for people with small channels are starting out should not copyright other TV clips. Because they will get monetized. Or copyrighted. Just stick with the action figures toys. That's the safe bet. And pray to God that the toy company doesn't make a copyright saying no you can't show this on KZbin. Otherwise we're all screwed.

I know absolutely nothing about how KZbin works, but would adding a short intro saying this video is not made for kids work? I see other channels do this, I just wonder if KZbin scans this content and re-categorizes it, if that intro is included? I am surprised that the "No, it's not made for kids" checkbox doesn't work. I feel your frustration.

I might reach out to one of those channels if I ever get chance for some advice. The problem is larger channels rarely respond personally due to the volume of comments they get - so its hard to reach people in my experience

You're not the only "smaller" creator in this space that I support that has noted the same kind of performance on their videos lately, and I admit it's a little disheartening to hear the system working against you with all of the quality content you so passionately create. I've been following your channel since near the beginning it seems and I enjoy your personal and intimate approach to rediscovering this franchise. No one has cracked the code on how to please the fickle KZbin powers that be, but please just stay the same endearing personable collector you are and remain consistent in your efforts. Many creators in this space are facing the same struggles with YT as they seem to be going the more AI-driven route and it doesn't favor the more niche spaces at present, but I never feel that you should just be happy with devaluing your own work effort for the sake of passion for the franchise. Let's be real, YT makes money from placing ads in your vids whether they pay you or not. Many TF channels have associated Patreon accounts or memberships on Discord outside of YT. There, the more labor-intensive passion projects can reach the real paying adult fans such as myself, and you have more control over the kind of content you can create and monetize. I personally support a few channels and have made some very real connections with like-minded fans just from Patreon and even YT memberships to Transformers channels. A great example of the YT/Patreon model is Chris McFeely's "The Basics", and he's been doing this forever. Sorry for the long comment, but I do hope the feedback sparks encouragement to keep at the channel and to keep enjoying this hobby as much as we all do. The success will come if it's meant to. If it no longer becomes fun for you then by all means find your joy, but don't let YT take yours without a fair fight. 'Til all are One friend!

oh dude a lot of younger people watch G1. this happened to me also i made a few TF g1 clips and some got 100K and 66K views and since all the kids are all tik tok brained now guess who watched the shorts even though i said not for kids they shut down my comments and everything. my channel is dedicated to video game music remakes that i compose and arrange i have 1.5k subscribers now, but 1k of are kids are messing up my algorithm unless i post sonic the hedgehog music haha

So the thing is with youtube, the biggest demographic is kids, and shorts are like 10 fold. I'm more or less interested in the demographics of the audience. Like what was the highest age range?

Welcome to the sanitization of the internet! Places like Facebook, KZbin and so on are looking to make sure that there are no separate spaces. They don’t want you to make content that can’t be viewed by children. Because then that’s people that can’t see their ads. If your channel falls in the process then so be it. They don’t care about individual success. They just want people to see ads.
