The concept that slippery slopes don't exist is the fallacy. People often misuse fallacies because they don't understand arguments or fallacies. It's fallacious to argue that because something could get worse, it will. It's correct to argue that something has a track record of getting/being worse, thus could get worse again in the future. When a position is supported by evidence, it's not a fallacy. For example: Trump came out and stated his abortion position is one supported by most legal scholars. His narrow view of 'legal scholar' is limited to 'supreme court justices' for that to be true. Yes, most justices voted to repeal Roe v Wade. If I said: A vote in 2024 for Trump is a vote to end abortion protections Nationwide, ordinarily that would be a Red Herring. Because it's Trump, it's actually already happened. All that's left is passing legislation to federally support a ban, once he has the presidency again, and a republican majority. Luckily, GoP is better at chewing off it's own foot out of anxiety, than they are at effective legislation.

He was a kid at that time and was obviously watched along with them but he never knew to what extent until he was an adult and decided to utilize the freedom of information act. He requested the file on him, assuming there would be some interesting stuff but not really that much because he was an elementary school kid for most of that time. He was wrong. They watched him constantly, they talked to his teachers and his principles about him. They had copies of every single homework assignment, test, and drawings he did at school. They had lists of kids he played with during recess and what he ate for lunch. They did this for over a decade. Keep in mind this was a child of SUSPECTED communists. They were never actually communists and it took over a decade of watching the entire family for the feds to decide they weren't a threat and closed their file. My old teacher said he never really knew why they were watched in the first place but assumes it was because his parents might have made a donation to a charity linked to the communist party of america since they were philanthropic people. That or they were a known associate of a communist party member. That's all it can take to be stalked by the government for over a decade. You drop some coins in the wrong bucket or have the wrong coworker. Now apparently hovering over the wrong thumbnail can be added to that list.

I never have understood the algorithm because it sometimes just makes no sense to see millions of views on videos that are like so obscure? Like how even?
@CampervanCookout9 ай бұрын
Some of the channels I follow have literally disappeared from the algorithm and the views plummeted because. I still watch via subs. I guess it’s not the optimum cost vs income so it gets punished?

Yeah its crazy seeing some channels just not appear anymore and not sure if its from competition or just the algo just messing it up?@@CampervanCookout

The fast scythe mowing reminds me of Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. Death goes on a working holiday to live on a farm, and he's, let's say, pretty good at mowing the fields with a scythe. "ONE STRAW AT A TIME" he says, while keeping pace with a darn combine.

the thing scythes is they don't work very well on steep hills and can't get into tight corners so it makes more sense to compare them to a push mower then a weed eater.

It annoys me that I have family who have issues with websites not allowing you to say what ever you want which doesn't brake 1st amendment but they have no issue with blanket search and seizure of data by law enforcement. USA education and law enforcement is a joke.

I leave youtube on autoplay often when going to sleep, I'll wake up then & often it will be on a video from Linus or some other youtuber I watch but sometimes I'll wake up & it will be on completely random things I never would of searched for or watched. Also I don't get why sometimes youtube will stop & "ask are you still watching?" yet other times it seemingly keeps playing for ever & a whole day later it's still going on autoplay without stopping.

I think a more narrow version of this sting where they send someone an unlisted video and then subpoena KZbin for who viewed it could be reasonable, since the only people watching an unlisted video are going to be people you gave the link to. But using a public video with huge numbers of innocent people is way too broad a net and a massive overreach.
@alien92799 ай бұрын
That would be ideal. At the same time even if it has 30k it would be fairly easy to narrow that down to your suspect since you'll know a lot about them already
@fakjbf31299 ай бұрын
@@alien9279 Yes, but now they have information on 29,999 innocent people who are watching a “problematic” video that they wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. They are pushing people to these videos not because they want to catch that individual person, they are doing it because they want that data about all the other people and this is their way of getting their foot in the door.
@h4tch3tt749 ай бұрын
Government undercover feeding a suspect an unlisted video and then arresting them for watching is potential entrapment for one thing. Then abhorrent for making knowledge illegal.
@fakjbf31299 ай бұрын
@@h4tch3tt74 They aren’t being arrested for watching the video, they are being arrested for whatever they were being investigated for. The video is just a way for them to get info they can use to figure out/prove who the person is. Think of it like those sting operations where they just emailed people with active warrants that they won Super Bowl tickets and then arrested people when they showed up.

I was thinking about this and I'd bet the reason specific videos are targeted is that they're shared in dark web forums like Dread and the feds want to see if they can cross reference anyone's details from the forums to see if they've been sloppy with opsec.

I've wondered if it was an unlisted video they posted to a forum somewhere to try to figure out the identity of forum members (existing suspects). Like a site on the dark web. I hope we get to find out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Prosecutors could limit the number of people caught in the dragnet by limiting the timeframe. "People who watched the video between [date/time] and [date/time]" But is the WAN show available as a podcast? Or some on-demand service OTHER than youtube?
