Depends on if that person falls into a good group or a bad group. Actions don't matter anymore. It's okay as long as you are special. Other people will be blamed for it if someone must be punished. Those other people made them commit the crime by some vague reason. They were oppressed and just fighting back against the ______ man.

The slippery slope is hardly ever a fallacy when it comes to the u.s. government's ability to abuse it's power

Also it's only a fallacy if you assume that it inevitably leads to going down the slope, not if you are just saying its a possibility. What makes it more believable is literal decades of mountains of evidence that the federal government spies on people and abuses its power.

The concept that slippery slopes don't exist is the fallacy. People often misuse fallacies because they don't understand arguments or fallacies. It's fallacious to argue that because something could get worse, it will. It's correct to argue that something has a track record of getting/being worse, thus could get worse again in the future. When a position is supported by evidence, it's not a fallacy. For example: Trump came out and stated his abortion position is one supported by most legal scholars. His narrow view of 'legal scholar' is limited to 'supreme court justices' for that to be true. Yes, most justices voted to repeal Roe v Wade. If I said: A vote in 2024 for Trump is a vote to end abortion protections Nationwide, ordinarily that would be a Red Herring. Because it's Trump, it's actually already happened. All that's left is passing legislation to federally support a ban, once he has the presidency again, and a republican majority. Luckily, GoP is better at chewing off it's own foot out of anxiety, than they are at effective legislation.

@@VitalVampyr I would love to hear a judge or even a defense attorney excoriate officers who think watching a given video is grounds probable cause, the threshold required for a warrant. Someone likes a certain book by a certain Austrian, that might be enough for me to terminate any personal relationship, enough to watch them from a distance, but filing a report on them with the local PD isn't really going to go anywhere. Im getting the same and im from Brazil. I suspect the algorithm is doing some association thing; For example i watched some videos on tech and games (and some on tech privacy) and my guess crazy altright americans also watch those things- and heck i strongly suspect the craziest conspiracionists watch a lot of tech privacy content with tinfoil hats and all. It happened to me once in the past and i could trace back in my watch history the odd video i had watched recently that change the algorithm for me, and it was some random reactions video guy(so i deleted it from history it got fixed). This time i couldnt find it, but anyway i guess now its just some of the themes and channels that just by being popular get crossed with other demographics too. In another example im a man, in Brazil, i watch some clearlyy man-only content but i happen to not dig sports nor football (or soccer for the americans). But thats like an extreme outlier in my country, brazil of all places, not a football fan... it took YEARS for youtube to finally learn i never click on football. And to this day theres a funny content creator i rarely click because if i watch only a single feed video from him half my recomendations feed turn to sports overnight.

Reminds me a story my old civics teacher told us. His parents were suspected communists at one point during the cold war so naturally they were being watched. He was a kid at that time and was obviously watched along with them but he never knew to what extent until he was an adult and decided to utilize the freedom of information act. He requested the file on him, assuming there would be some interesting stuff but not really that much because he was an elementary school kid for most of that time. He was wrong. They watched him constantly, they talked to his teachers and his principles about him. They had copies of every single homework assignment, test, and drawings he did at school. They had lists of kids he played with during recess and what he ate for lunch. They did this for over a decade. Keep in mind this was a child of SUSPECTED communists. They were never actually communists and it took over a decade of watching the entire family for the feds to decide they weren't a threat and closed their file. My old teacher said he never really knew why they were watched in the first place but assumes it was because his parents might have made a donation to a charity linked to the communist party of america since they were philanthropic people. That or they were a known associate of a communist party member. That's all it can take to be stalked by the government for over a decade. You drop some coins in the wrong bucket or have the wrong coworker. Now apparently hovering over the wrong thumbnail can be added to that list.

@@MrNicoJac I wouldn't know the answer to that question since I never met his parents and I haven't seen him in over a decade. At the very least it likely stressed/creeped his parents out to know that they were being so heavily watched. He probably didn't know it was happening while he was a kid so he was probably living in blissful ignorance. Those are just assumptions on my part though because like I said this is a story I heard a long time ago and I never actually met his parents who would have known the most about their situation.

Being on the wrong road at the wrong time allows the police to search your vehicle in a context they otherwise would not. However, even then, it's not like they can wiretap your home and search your house. This is where the KZbin situation goes way further, in requesting far too much data. If they got the name/email/ip of everyone who saw the video and at what time, that is still intrusive but is narrowly scoped to a very specific purpose and would be much more in line with something like a DUI checkpoint.

10:51 as someone who has Amish neighbors and an Ex-Amish fiancée, they actually use reel style mowers, their fully mechanical manual push mowers. They aren't really hard to use and leave a really clean cut! They only use scythes for cutting really high grass/brush, or cutting on really steep hills

9:35 we do that in Slovakia xD Probably in Poland too, if you live in village and have some farm animals, chances are you have scythe at home to mow what's called "Alfalfa" in english. You get that way lot of green tall grass for pigs or chickens that way, and still keeps water inside (wont dry that quick). 9:55 There are also scythe competitions here, mostly on farm day events

This kind of thing is useful in helping people remember/realize how important privacy is and that everything you do on the internet is recorded (unless you specifically take steps to hide or obfuscate it). Company's use this data (that most people don't think about being dangerous) primarily to make profit by selling it to advertisers, but because that data exists and doesn't magically go away, governments or the public could also get access to this data because of either a data leak, court order, or the company getting bought out, etc. Also, everyone still seems to forget everything that Edward Snowden leaked years ago, nothing has changed (at least in the US), and the NSA is most certainly still up to it's usual tricks of spying on the public.

The next day a team of feds was at his door interrogating him about the "incident"

I have watched videos of high level technical jobs simply because the algorithm suggest it and I clicked it wondering why. Then after 39 minutes I basically had a fair enough knowledge to splice high voltage power lines. Another video on how to program software for GPS geofencing way points for home made drone lawn mowers. Which doubles as a method for someone to use flying drones to monitor large property. Had no idea that just clicking something like that could lead to a self incrimination scenario based off my ip traffic. Yay

The fast scythe mowing reminds me of Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. Death goes on a working holiday to live on a farm, and he's, let's say, pretty good at mowing the fields with a scythe. "ONE STRAW AT A TIME" he says, while keeping pace with a darn combine.

I think a more narrow version of this sting where they send someone an unlisted video and then subpoena KZbin for who viewed it could be reasonable, since the only people watching an unlisted video are going to be people you gave the link to. But using a public video with huge numbers of innocent people is way too broad a net and a massive overreach.
@alien9279

That would be ideal. At the same time even if it has 30k it would be fairly easy to narrow that down to your suspect since you'll know a lot about them already

@@alien9279 Yes, but now they have information on 29,999 innocent people who are watching a “problematic” video that they wouldn’t have had access to otherwise. @@h4tch3tt74 They aren’t being arrested for watching the video, they are being arrested for whatever they were being investigated for.
