@MrRainbow228 nice, KZbin was so different back then. I miss the customizable channel layout from those times. If you have heard of Vidlii it's modeled after the 2006 version of KZbin.

I know the stuff I do isn't strictly "art," but man, I feel all of this so hard. The job isn't just ~making the thing~ - it's about so much more, and that "so much more" is So. Absolutely. Boring. And. Tedious. And the Skinner Box life can be so heartbreaking. But, if you're lucky, it's worth it 💜

I think a big part of why your start of video promos at the start are so effective is because it isn't just harshly inserted promo, it adds to the video it's part of. You're giving context to the viewer's curiosity about what they're going to be watching happen for the next 30-40 minutes, while sorta accidentally promoting the content its part of. If they're interested in the art you're drawing (which is likely because your drawings are really good and satisfying to watch come to life), the thought of "hey star wutcha drawin?" is already answered and is associated with whatever you've promoted, and that curiosity can fuel them to check out your webcomic instead of writing a comment asking what you're drawing. Which is even more convinient as you noted with how youtube lets you link stuff as it's mentioned, even in just this video you mentioned another video that I was immidiately interested in and added to my watch later, and checking out your webcomic has been on my mind since coming across your videos. It's really well done!!

I just want to say that you've inspired me to do more with my art. I'm 34 years old and I was sure ( even though my art career never took off) i couldn't do anything art related in life. Thanks to your videos I felt inspired to practice more and get better and maybe in the future also work on a passion project of my own. You emit such great vibes and i honestly enjoy watching your stuff. Thanks for inspiring me. Even though im not too old you made me feel that there is a chance to do what you love :)

Me and my sister originally saw your "getting stabbed" video, never and we watched, but didn't hop on your train. Then, a good few months later, I found your channel again with another video, and I researched the stabbed video, and I was like "OMG IVE SEEN THIS BEFORE!" I love your content, and I read your comic in 2 days. Sleep schedule had to be sacrificed, but it was so worth it. I can't wait to see what happens next

These past couple years or so, I was stuck in an artistic stump where I wasn’t really progressing or going anywhere with my works. I felt bad about my art and didn’t like my style. Even after watching countless art videos, I still felt stuck. But then I discovered your channel through the “How to Make a Webcomic” video, and honestly? Not to be dramatic, but it changed my life for the better. Castoff has been an incredibly inspirational webcomic, and thanks to you, your videos, and your amazing discord server, I feel like I’m finally getting myself back on track as an artist and working towards becoming a comic creator myself. As a Christmas gift to me, I will be buying your How to Webcomic book. Thank you so much for helping me rediscover my passion for creating and for being an awesome, funny, and honest creator. Much love!!❤️

The way you talk about people discovering Castoff at about 24:00 - that's basically how I found it. Not at that time, not with that video, though. KZbin gave me your "weirdest comission" story a few months ago, and I went through everything else on your channel I could find. After hearing your video about Castoff's history, I had to check it out. Binged the whole thing in two days. I'm eager to see where it goes.

HOW ACCURATE WAS THAT THOUGH the link in bio thing KILLS ME, I hate when I have to get any sort of traction online that's the first or last thing I have to say and the person in me telling me "your being to selfish!" Is SCREAMINGG but literally thats how you get anywhere on these algorithmic platforms that don't care to throw you aside for hard work unless you feed into their standards to some degree💀 [And I don't care what people say, being famous on tiktok doesn't mean anything really, I can't believe people think their better than youtubers, like no I feel like youtubers put in WAYY more effort, it takes alot to edit a video more than a minute long-]

Thank you for the amazing insight! I was working on tiktoks for the past year and you’re right, I can feel myself burned out constantly competing to use the same trends or try to appeal to whats new and popular to market myself and my art shop better. I want to be a full time artist and create/design new original art merch/accessories, maybe even do a comic or something story based someday! Your channel has been a huge inspiration to me and I think I’ll try out the youtube videos more in the future!

29:00 - Lol I know it sounds like your trying to make it sound more hyped up and complex than it is but I've actually heard the term content ecosystem thrown around before, mainly when referring to live streamers who turn their vods into videos, shorts, posts and other forms of content that support each other, so don't worry you aren't the only one that calls it that. It's a legitimate tactic that works for many people glad it works for you thats really cool to hear about

I am not going to lie, this was another one of those art and story time videos much like the last one that really made me think of my personal situation with how KZbin has impacted me. I was always someone who mainly wanted to just do KZbin for fun since 2014 yet as the years went on, I grew more and more momentum and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I love seeing other creators find that momentum as well, especially ones who make content that are right up my alley. It doesn't feel like too long since I discovered your channel in the spring yet I have grown so much knowledge of your work and the welcomeness of your Discord community, it feels like 3 years, not going to lie. Here are some parts that stuck out to me and how they made me think. 1:26 After watching the video, I can say confidently, it did. 2:04 I have been on KZbin since I was like 5 or 6. Before you feel shock, I didn't get exposed to too many things I shouldn't have. I compare it to being in a Wild West showdown but somehow not getting hurt in the process. It's not a miracle per se but rather, me being an obedient angel, albeit very gullible. 4:52 It almost seems rather........poetic that when I discovered your channel right around the time I learned about marketing principles and marketing principles, even before I took that class, I knew were very strong aspects to managing a freelance career. I have known many freelance artists in my days and yes, it has its moments. 4:57 It's interesting that you used so much psychological terminology to describe the situation, that's a good addition to the video! 5:40 Umhmm. I couldn't agree more. I have always been that type of person to throw ideas for KZbin at the wall to see what would stick, and I spent many years doing that until I found something that led me down a bright road. 6:04 Most of my videos plateau and get hardly anything, but from the point of view of a small creator, I try to not let me live it down. Every person starts with a plateau and sometimes, things will happen to get it up. Sometimes, hope can ride the way, sometimes it doesn't. It's usually hard to determine. When it comes to social media experimentation, I will confess that in the past, this is something I have always struggled with and I have been turning my accounts strongly to ways to show off my art and not just use it only on Discord. 8:46 This part reminded me of how I got my first main viral video (for lack of better terms) and it was just a mix between following on a trend that was popular back then and just getting caught with the algorithm for a small period of time. And then it happened again the same year. Sometimes, and I am speaking from experience, the weirdest things are the things that could get your video to lots of views. I made a stupid video with dumb misheard lyrics of a cover of a meme song but the cover was deleted because of the creator quitting KZbin and people still wanted to listen to the song, so what did they do? They went to my video because I still had that cover, although with silly little visuals. It taught me a lesson that even some of your least proud of works can get you places you wouldn't expect. 15:07 I remember that I got into making shorts by getting an email from KZbin saying that doing so might help get some more of my numbers up, so I decided to give it a try. I took some of my very old videos and made KZbin Shorts versions of them and checked how they performed. It didn't work for all of my videos I did this with but it worked with a few of them. To me, that's progress. 16:54 KZbin Shorts does this with me, but also I think that is just because I am still small and a lot of the people who subscribed to me didn't specifically subscribe for that style of content. Again, getting your feet wet and experimenting. As you mention later on, some platforms only mainly help those who use it frequently. With KZbin, I (and also a lot of people here) can go at our own pace with our content and numbers may rise. 24:36 This expression was how I felt when the whole "trend" thing happened to me a few years ago. Sometimes you just don't know where it will take you. 25:22 This was where the crowd I was part of came in. It feels weird that it all started on one morning before I took my Marketing Principles class, stressed through hell and back about my largest exhibition in my university's art gallery that I found one of your videos and loved it so much. It was amusing, engaging, and it was well put together. 26:03 For me, yes, yes, and yes. 29:55 This one was a pretty interesting one for me to reflect on. I could easily be saying that I was inspired by make storytime videos from you, but that is an absolute lie since I started experimenting with that style of content myself in May 2021. However, I can say that your content has gotten me more motivated to make more in the future. Mine just had a narrating character and a solid background, but I am started to experiment with art timelapses in the future ones and I have seen many people inspired from your style of videos. Many people I am inspired by were inspired by other people. It's like a tree of inspiration, as I call it. And even if mine don't get many views as of now, that doesn't mean I don't want to make them anymore. If I find the time, more people to myself. Don't let the fear of thinking of copying=inspiration get you down. It's always okay to feel inspired by someone, and it's okay to mix your inspiration with your style. That's what I plan to do. You don't know until you experiment sometimes. 33:03 I always felt I was iffy with this one, especially since I have had some great mics and bad mics in the past. My current one does well but I always felt like I couldn't get every misconvenience out in a timely manor. However, I have now found more effective ways to remove them, which will help with the audio. 33:45 PLEASE, PLEASE DO THIS, I BEG YOU, WHOEVER IS READING MY COMMENT!!!! 36:02 Noted. 36:27 I couldn't agree anymore with this statement. Final thoughts, the big part. Lately, I have been thinking about what makes your content so engaging to someone like me, and it's pretty easy to figure out. I love great artists, and love following so many of them. I love great storytellers who can suck me in with their words and how they present them. I love great comedians who can make me laugh with their wacky antics and overall make me want to continue watching their content and enjoy every moment of them. You are without a shadow of a doubt, a grand example of all three working together. And, I thank you for that!

As far as I'm concerned, I think your videos are some of the best for artists like me. Your stories are engaging and make perfect background noise for drawing, the style they move in flows really well, and the art is my favourite thing about your videos. The speed you have them play at is perfect for studying and learning techniques from, and being someone who struggles all the time with anything that isn't character related (background), seeing videos like this where you are showing your structure for drawing said backgrounds immensely helps me so much and I've even been able to completely alter the way I render to being faster but still just as good quality than what I used to do. You're one of my favourite creators on the platform and one of my largest inspirations when it comes to style, and it makes me happy to see any new video from you

Amazing video! Congrats on the subs. While I was on KZbin in the early days, for the same reasons as you XD. I got scared away by the copyright claims. I honestly wouldn’t mind coming back, I’m just unsure what art subjects would work with social media

this was a really good watch!! I'll keep the tips in mind as I have recently started thinking about making storytime videos to add to my usual content! also it's kinda funny how watching videos like this inspired you to make your own and now your videos are the ones I play in the background while drawing xD

I'm an artist, have a good mike and am a good reader/speaker but I'm too scared and lazy to try and record and especially montage something. I'm going to start my webcomic on the winter break tho and then maybe I'll try to create a video

Thank you SO MUCH for making the videos that you make. They’ve inspired me, given me very useful advice on an art career and have generally just raised my mood when I felt down. So yeah, thank you. I would’ve felt way more lost if it weren’t for you.

I'm glad I found your channel. They're chill fun Vids with seemingly helpful advice in them. I definitely have been considering more and more doing my own webcomic. You definitely have become a bit of an inspiration in that desire.

Yup, I found the comic through KZbin. I don't even remember which video I saw first, but I think the merch art in the background featured a forklift. Health and safety theme? I was so confused by it at first, had no idea who the characters were. I watched it and went on with my day.... and then KZbin offered me some of the shorts from your webcomic advice, and eventually a neuron fired and I realised they were linked to that first video, and so I watched more videos (particularly the one with the stained glass window and the poster where the Cast Off gang are going up a hill at sunset, those were beautiful) and wandered over to the comic, binged that, and... yeah. The rest is history. *dramatic pose* And it does make me want to take up art more seriously and make a webcomic, but I haven't put enough time in over the years, mostly just drawing. It's actually a little daunting watching videos with more seasoned artists drawing things, it all seems like it just happens so perfectly.... which is why it was really nice to see the construction work on Vector's foot in this one. Thank you for including that.

I am proud to say that I became a fan through the weirdest way none of your smoke and mirrors got me! Last Christmas I wanted to get a gift for my sister of the “the why are you buying clothes at the soup store” meme Well, there is not that much sellable merch online, but there was a shop selling prints of the character in the aisle. And I said that would do. So I bought it and it arrived The artist had included a little self promotion card. I believe it was “the starfish face”. I gave it to my sister for Christmas. It was a huge success, and I went about my life well last week I was perusing KZbin, and I saw an attractive thumbnail, really vibrant popping art, and I noticed that the eyes looked familiar, and when I read the name of the person who had uploaded the video, a familiar name appeared “the starfish face” 😲 so over the past week while I’ve been driving around I’ve put on the storytimes on in the background to see the mastermind behind the “why are you buying clothes that the soup store”print I bought
