There has been drama for years - the earliest I remember was around 2007 and another in 2010, and yes it was on KZbin. KZbin Drama is nothing new, and the only thing that seems to have changed is people focus on it more, yet there's been no real increase in it from what I can see (I guess it depends on what you pay attention to).

2013’s KZbin rewind was so much more spontaneous and it represents what KZbin is all about, not much is censored and it expresses itself to the world. Meanwhile 2018’s KZbin rewind is so advertiser friendly that it makes Nickelodeon’s ads seem like explicit content

2013's YTR was a callback to all the dumb trends that flodded YT throughout the whole year. It didn't need more, and that's why it's so great. 2018's feels fake. It tries to pander to everyone when it doesn't. And no, not just PewDiePie (although the T-Series thing deserved at least a mention), but stuff like Infinity War, VoiceOverPete, STEFFAN KARL, Flex Tape, Despacito, Logan Paul vs KSI, Grandayy & Dolan Dark, Tik Tok, Smash Bros Ultimate, "This is America"... Those are the things that, for better or worse, took YT by storm, and they deserve a spot in YTR for that. Instead, we got Will Smith, k-pop, football, and "we are so inclusive" pandering. Yes, they put Fortnite, Starman, Bongo Cat, and Yodeling Kid; but that's not even 7% what happened this year in YT (except Fortnite).
