I liked, no, LOVED Brad Taste. His streams were fun, he’s in fact the first “streamer” whom I watched from beginning to end. He influenced me a lot that my English pronunciation started to mimic his (pronouncing “s” as “sh” a little bit, and whatever). But I don’t think I’ll be able to watch or enjoy his content anymore after what happened. I don’t think he’s a bad person per se, he just needs a very, very LONG break off the Internet. I discovered a screenshot of his comment defending himself for asking $10k, this is literally his words: “I deleted the video realizing expecting 50 cents for nothing from 100k people is not only ambitious, but a bit crazy”, as well as “10k is not a stupid number and anyone who says it lives in a one bedroom apartment isolated from their family”. 10k is more than enough to live a good life for a year in my country, while here you have a guy who charges $9/minute to talk sh*t about the music his fans sent, bragged about the amount of money he made, even went as far as saying “I make more money per year talking sh*t than you ever will doing anything productive” (tbf he directed it at Melanie Martinez stans who were at the moment constantly harassing him and his partner, but jesus that kinda sucked), then his guy had the audacity to ask us 10k plus doubling down? I’m done. Edit: Guys like him are not uncommon. There are tons of creators/influencers who are just like him, receiving donations and bragging about it, saying “life’s not fair, better get used to it”. The idea of us, people who have to slave away all day just to survive, donating our disposable income so that a content creator who never had worked once in their lives continue living what we consider our dream life, basically making the wealthy wealthier, only to be disrespected, is absurd. My suggestion if he really wants to get paid listening to music without having to deal with toxic fans, he should consider getting another job and write music reviews on AOTY, blogs and his KZbin channel as a side gig. His reviews aren’t half bad, but with a stable income I think he put in some work to improve his skills more comfortably and probably end up like Fantano. It’s possible, in fact I believe a lot of creators on this platform has another income outside of KZbin. But I’m afraid he think he’s too good for a regular job.

i think it’s extremely funny that, in the clip where he’s asking for money and talking about his mental health in the context of internet interactions, he mentions his review of a Mori Calliope album. for a bit of context, she’s a vtuber who makes music inspired by a lot of japanese hip hop and has done so under a different name since before the Mori Calliope persona debuted (like, since she was in high school). i don’t really care for her music, but whatever. that being said, i think any musician would agree that, when you’re just starting to write your own songs, you’re mainly writing garbage that you cringe at once you’ve honed your craft. so anyway, one of brad’s fans digs up a reupload of one of her oldest songs that she wrote and released when she was like 17 (a reupload, because she removed it from streaming services years ago out of embarrassment), and brad does a whole stream about how it’s the worst song he’s ever heard. then he made a community post celebrating how his fans had gone to RYM and review-bombed that song to make it the lowest rated song on the site. then he spent the next year using her and her pre-Mori persona (generally frowned upon in the vtuber-sphere) as joking shorthand to refer to any cringey or bad music. things escalated, his chat broadened their horizons to insta-shitting on any asian music, and he eventually had to put out a video telling his chat “anti-asian racism is seriously not funny or ok”. all that to say: bradley - i understand mental health is a serious issue, one that i hope you take the time to get sorted out, but you’ve built a community and career off bullying and shitting on artists (even if your earlier stuff was more lighthearted). you’ve kinda lost the right to pull the “internet comments are affecting my mental health” card

Used to (still do?) watch BradTaste. As someone who caught his older streams, the cost per minute thing was because he would have queues of hundreds of songs if it was less. One guy would drop $50 to just have him react to an hour of music and it became completely unmanageable. He changed the price over time until the queues weren't so insanely long. I mean, he also could have just come up with a different system, I suppose, but that was the context. Had no idea about the 10k thing absolutely wild. Recently his actions have been INSANE. He made a video saying "No videos for a month or two, I'm going to rehab" then showed up a day or two later with a new video saying he's back. That broke my trust more than anything tbh, even if he is fine.

as someone who has been watching his content since 2019, his fall off has been fucking tragic to see. i've seen him go from high quality reviews with quirky editing, to edited stream highlights, to basically just listening to music on stream while people give him money. the way his content has trended towards being lower and lower effort while he gets into more and more stupid controversies has made me unable to watch him anymore. there is a really cruel irony in his story: the toxic nature of his channel/personality is clearly harming him in the long run, but that negativity is also the reason why many of his fans are subscribed and are giving him money to shit on music. I don't know how he can get out of this without a complete rebrand or new direction to put his efforts into.

The frustrating thing with Brad bringing up Mori at the beginning as a reason for part of the stress he's going through is that he's directly responsible for that shit. I stopped watching his streams because I got busier, and I loved the live service and the new music we hear from people who have different tastes or make music themselves. I still listen to a few independent artists he’s shone a light on and he was really honest with his reviews, but lately, when I see his posts, it hasn’t drawn me, I go on X and it’s a problem every other month about something he said or did and him putting a lot of pressure on himself, so, I definitely continued to keep my distance. Now, he’s doing too much. It’s crazy because at a little bit before the end of the year and the beginning, he said he knew this wasn’t forever and always expressed his appreciation for people investing in his high rate, but something changed. I think he didn’t realize how much his job as a content creator has taken a toll on his mental health because of him not making the right adjustments that work for him while also picking and choosing his battles cause you’ll NEVER please everyone. We also told him that he can make whatever he wants and we’ll be OK with it. So, 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Hearing 'Brad taste in Music' flashbanged me, I remember this guy clowning on some albums I loved at the time, lmao Edit: To be clear, I'm not salty about it or anything, the artist was allegedly exposed for some unfortunate things, so I understand why he did what he did, but most of his criticism boiled down to calling things pretentious (it was a concept album, a lot of esoteric things were put in to further a story)
