A 17 year old Nebraskan teenager and KZbinr gets COOKED after being charged with two felony counts by Lancaster County. The court has moved to charge the young zoomer as an adult. BNSF Railway found that the teenager had caused the train to collide with a boxcar and derail for internet clout. Thankfully no one was injured. The teen faces 7 years in prison. He ruined his life for views!!! Very dumb.

I'm a railfan person myself and even I know what's considered allowed and not allowed. There's a fine line that railfans follow (respecting the crew, staying off the track/ being a good distance away from the tracks when a train comes, etc.), but what's considered taking it too far is literally trespassing, getting too close, and a lot more. Also, when people do this type of stuff, it makes us railfans look bad, because people would think that EVERYONE does this.
@BalaenicepsRex3
@BalaenicepsRex3 2 ай бұрын
This is the first case that I've ever seen of a fan vandalizing freight train. He doesn't even seem to have a motive, just pure attention seeking. A mere unstable young man. I seriously doubt people will think rail fans are like this. Instead, we're usually known for complaining that we don't have enough trains in our countries lol.
@jbird4478
@jbird4478 2 ай бұрын
The line isn't that fine. It's pretty simple. There's no special rules for railfans. You can't be on the railroad company's property without permission and you can't touch their stuff. Same as for normal people.
@notahumanbeing6892
@notahumanbeing6892 2 ай бұрын
@@jbird4478they probably mean within the community, there is a culture of “be respectful follow the rules” as opposed to many other online groups focused on real world things such as urbex (often illegally trespassing with a culture of “fuck the law”). They mean other train fans disagree with this behavior, and don’t want the community misunderstood because the most visibility they have had to the mainstream is this limp balloon derailing a train for footage, especially since the internet has several groups which do actively vocally encourage law breaking and mischief.

Kind of like how the news paint Roblox as some back alley film of predators just because the company doesn’t care about its moderation and letting predators get on it and then they get on the news
@theodorgiosan2570
@theodorgiosan2570 Ай бұрын
@@jbird4478There are exceptions in some places like abandoned property with trains/train cars on it that is no longer railroad property. Where I used to live there was a train car and old diesel locomotive abandoned long ago on a section of abandoned rusty disconnected track literally in the middle of the publicly accessible, publicly walkable woods. So there are trains, locomotives, and train cars that are accessible without trespassing and/or without trespassing on railroad property. There are sections of completely abandoned track with working switches on public property, in woods and parks as well. Completely safe to switch back and forth as they have not been used in some cases 100+ years and are not part of the current rail network. Where I used to live there was a trail through the public woods with old rusted unused tracks running over it with trees growing through some of the railroad ties. To the left off the trail is a manual switch that can still be switched back and forth with some effort. So it's even more ridiculous that people would mess with switches like this when there are abandoned ones in the woods and entire old abandoned trains that you can just mess around with without causing any damage to anything.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH… do NOT touch the switches if you stumble upon any. I work at an industrial chemical plant where we get/send railcars in and out and all it takes is one switch to switch the path of a engine from the main line to our facility. If that switch gets pulled, that train engine is full steam ahead right into a chemical plant full of VERY hazardous materials.

I am shocked at the lack of security. There is basically none. Those switches should be protected by *HEAVY* locks and electronic alarms that will send an alert if the unit is opened without the alarm being deactivated. Thousands of people are going to die if security is not upgraded right now, because now everyone knows how to derail a train.

Your explanation of what a felony is, is not completely accurate. You can be charged with a felony or even multiple felonies and be given less than 1 year, which is spent in county jail, not prison. Sometimes no incarceration sentence is given and either community service or fines are levied. At least, that's the way it is where I am in the US.

No, because this wasn't politically motivated. However, this does highlight the fact that our rail system is an easy target for terrorists that they have simply overlooked. Honestly, train companies should be required by law to secure this shit and should be liable for damages, too. It would be like an airline just letting random people come and go through a side gate and play with their equipment. If someone sabotaged an plane you can bet your ass that the airline and airport would also be under investigation.

the switch the obviously autistic kid threw is a "dual control" switch typically used remotely by the rail traffic controller, which is good in the way that it having been done manually would drop the signal on any oncoming train and the traffic controller would see there's an issue. the one the kid in nebraska threw is likely a normal manual switch which depending on the occupancy control system it's possible nobody would know till it's too late. What I find odd is how the kid threw the switch, aside from in busy railyards they're locked
@ironhorse384
@ironhorse384 2 ай бұрын
The switch is irrelevant because the real question is how did the car get from the backtrack to sitting on the points. He would’ve had to release the brakes on the car and either the grade of the track would’ve allowed the car to roll down to the switch or he would’ve pushed it to get it moving. There’s also the question of the derail if it was on the car would’ve been on the ground clear of the mainline so it was left off by the crew setting out the B/O, he broke the lock and flipped it off or he had a key for the lock.
