I can hear both and I think it's a singer thing especially for anyone in chorus. Laurel is essentially on the opposite side of a do re mi scale of yanny and most people without music backgrounds are more inclined to hear the higher frequencies which is the equivalent to the melody of a song, which would be yanny. But when listening harder it's easier to hear the lower Harmony parts to both songs, which in context would be Laurel.

what i’ve noticed is older people tend to hear “laurel” while younger people hear “yanny”. as people get older, they get worse at hearing high pitches, while younger people hear high pitches crystal clear. “yanny” is in a higher pitch while “laurel” is in a lower pitch, which means it’s much more likely for younger people to hear the higher pitch.
