I generally agree, but for this particular situation it's 2 things for me: 1. HE clearly thought he was doing something wrong, for whatever reason, but does it anyway; 2. He was specifically "targeting" girls who were fans of his and whatever that group was Then besides the gap, there's the creepiness of young people over 18 (under 21) specifically going after kids in high school, regardless of the age gap.

Seeing people call someone a predator when the accused and victim are like 1 or 2 years apart got me feeling confused on how to feel about it too lmao. In my high school time in I’ve seen popular girls in my grade date someone older when they’re not 18 years old yet and the boys would always be like a grade or 2 grades above the girls. I was friends with like 2 popular girls too and didn’t judge them or anything cause idgaf. but like I seen those ALL the time back then. So what I’m saying now is that idk how to feel about someone being a predator when they are both young and close to their age anyways when it was a everyday thing I’ve seen.

Yeah it's a grey area. On one hand, it's literally only two years. On the other, I see a pretty large maturity difference in that relationship. I know I was a LOT more mature and aware at 19/20 than I was at 17. But again, it's only two years so I don't know. I'm personally not a fan of "celebrities" or "influencers" initiating any kind of sexual relationship with fans (especially not younger fans) because I do feel like there's an unfair power dynamic/pressure there, but that's personal opinion.

17 and 19 isn't enough to get that much of a reaction. Even though I think it's a decent maturity gap (some people disagree, but I was personally a *lot* more mature at 19 than 17), it's still only 2 years. The parasocial relationship is more of an issue to me. I'm personally not a fan of "celebrities" or "influencers" initiating any kind of sexual relationship with fans (especially not younger fans) because I do feel like there's an unfair power dynamic/pressure there, but that's personal opinion.

I do see an issue at like a 3 to 4 year split. Like the major cut off of "you're clearly creepy" is 20 to 21 in my mind. With whatever nuances go around that. I get in the KZbinr situation there's a power struggle, and predation there on the fan. But 19? I wouldn't say predator, or even groomer, but just kinda... sad? Desperate? Like I'm calling him creepy, no matter the age gap... because just don't break the law, and keep away from underage people... but grooming? What was he doing grooming himself and the girl? I dunno about all that.

I think it’s more about kids/teens (minors in general) being manipulated easier and there is a power imbalance between a child and an adult. Especially a famous adult. You can know what’s going on and still be easily manipulated, especially if you’ve had something similar happen in the past which can cause you to freeze up, give in or feel like you “deserve it”.

Ok, you can't compare this Carson situations like a normal 17 and 19. 1. He is a famous KZbinr, there is a power imbalance right there already. 2. She going to school, she is living with her parents, she has a curfew and has to answer to her parents while he is living alone, not going to school and basically in control of his own life. 3.
