Bro, remember that list of Yoyoka links I emailed you that time? Trust me... watch her "Stray Cats" - Rock This Town cover next. I don't say this often, but she outshines Slim Jim Phantom on that one. I've never seen him play that song the way she does on that cover.

Most of Yoyoka's fans are rock fans or rock drummers, based on KZbin comments. I always thought that she really shines playing syncopated funk stuff. Especially since that's when she has the stank face too

So refreshing to be introduced to new artists by her-and with that special style she owns. And I love you the way you break it all down. I was just reading today about Stevie Wonder’s early childhood musical experience. I thought of Yoyoka and imagined being able to get inside the mind of a happy musical prodigy and take in the rhythm and sound as they do-if even for a few minutes. What a treat that groove would be! Keep bringing us close to feeling that!!!

This is the cover that I fell in (drumming) love with this kid. This is my favorite cover of hers so I don’t mind you watching it over again. I’ve watched it so many times. And I’m always in awe. It’s the sassiest and funkiest thing she’d ever done. I love these (funk) covers coz we see her personality comes out and the obvious fun she has not even mentioning her skill and command of the song. Anderson saw and even posted this on his IG as well. Actually I like this cover better than the original. Again because Yoyoka put her own touch. Thanks for the reaction Wave. Btw, I’ve suggested this since I’ve started watching you. I think it’s one of the first if not the first cover I’ve suggested for you to react. 🤘🏼🥁👍

Hi Wave Hope the migraine passes soon cos be interested to see your take on this track too. I really liked the run through then the zoom ins/slow-mo/breakdown of what she was doing. (although even when you slowed it and explained, my brain/eyes couldn't keep up!) The joy she shows is so infectious in this one. I find myself grinning every time I see it and noticed you had a similar reaction. As someone else said, as she gets older, we'll probably see less of those hilarious little extras she threw in here in the 'intervals' , but instead I've noticed how well her demeanor in each cover matches the style of the song she's performing -her quiet power in Dazed and Confused is a great example of this.

I heard this a couple times and thought, "Yeah pretty funky, nice I guess," and moved on, but as with many of her covers the more I listen the more amazing it gets. How she pulls off the Yoyoka magic each time, gives the song a bloomy excitement, makes it like studying the works of Mozart. Pretty much every cover is there for a reason, rather than just being a collection of covers she happened to get to a presentable level.
@kwokalisaur3 жыл бұрын
"a bloomy excitement" is a really good turn of phrase. I'm always struggling to describe what Yoyoka's touch does for a song; "expands all the details", "opens it up" were a few attempts. Nice writing, J J
@ThePallidor3 жыл бұрын
@@kwokalisaur Writing is part of what I do for a living yet I've really had to dig to find the words to explain the Yoyoka effect. I saw the word "bloomy" used in some audiophile reviews of top-end speakers. I'm reaching for words that describe the difference between orange soda and fresh-squeezed orange juice, or between a good mango and a fantastic mango. That extra depth of sensory experience that tends to get washed away in verbal descriptions. Each little microsensation a fractal of blooming sensory flowers--that's how it feels to experience something as a child or for the very first time. No jadedness, nothing worn smooth, no social inhibition interfering with what you're allowed to feel. The auto-ignore filter the mind places on the experience of tastes, sights, and sounds so that you are not overwhelmed by the sensory depth of reality as you try to get adult things done in everyday life, such as reading the morning paper while you drink your orange juice, is still not there with her. What makes her a miracle of sorts is how she experiences music with all the heady excitement, detailed sensory apprehension, uninhibitedness and unpretentiousness of a child yet with - as Wave put it - all the restraint, skill, musicality, and overall professionalism of an adult. (A world-class pro adult at that.) She hasn't won her professionalism, as most do, at the cost of those last little ineffable and uncountable details of the childlike experience.

@@WavePotter You know me just trying to be helpful. I actually don't think it's that bad. I think Van3der is about the same. One of my favorites. Joe K and others point out as she gets older she is being more reserved, a shy phase. But her drumming will only grow if she maintains her passion for music. Her road may take her to Jazz. As long as she is playing her "latest addiction" we will all be going to "the amazing wonderland" as Kate once said.....

Just when we think Yoyoka has stratified herself as a great rock drummer, she comes out with a different genre and absolutely nails it not just technically but with the feel for the music. She separates herself from other drummers which makes a case for her being one of the best around.

Video setup seems very good now. When children are young they have little inhibitions, so her early videos show a lot of expression, as she gets older, some of that may recede as teens start to become more reserved and shy, especially girls. It won't affect her drumming, but she might start to be a bit less expressive (I'm hoping not).

Hello Wave, My name is Shlomi and I am from Israel. Nice to see the reactions and also to hear your comments, are definitely of interest. I've been following this amazing talent, for about three years now and have heard her do amazing covers. She has different rhythms besides rock and I wonder if she should also include in her tune songs by big bands that have sung soul music, from the creator of Motown. Bands like The Temptations with the Immortal Songs: Masterpiece. In this song for example, You can hear how his producers built the stages in which the drummer integrates more and more within the song👇🏻 Law of the Land and more. What do you think?
