I'm honestly amazed how a group of dedicated fan translators and voice actors would go out of their way to create an English fandub for this English patch.

You know it's a good game when it inspires that level of dedication from its fans.

Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys was an amazing farewell for the series' run on the PC Engine, and it's one of my favorite games in the entire series.

how about One Piece: Legend of the Rainbow Island and one piece set sail pirate crew ps1?

It impresses me that, instead of them simply implementing subtitles for the dialogue scenes like with Private EyeDol or Sailor Moon, these hardcore fans took it a step further and dubbed the entire game in English. God, I love the romhacking community so much!

Yeah the fan translations has been evolving. I know there another fan translations of this Saturn game called bulk slash I been following that also added English voices which also blew me away and it cool to see same for this game too

To be fair...this translation was created in the early 2000s when hacking tools were still in rough shape, especially for the PC Engine. Private EyeDol is a much newer translation
@TurboXray3 ай бұрын
subtitles, on a technical level for hacking, is a lot harder than doing a dub for the PCE CD. Technically speaking.

The overworld theme is one of the best pieces of music ever created for any video game. This game deserved to be on the otherwise exceptional PC Engine Mini along with Gate Of Thunder and Magical Chase.

Its amazing that this series is still strong today.

Not gonna lie, this is one of my favourite 90s games of all time! It's easily in the top 10 PC Engine CD titles, and the perfect end to the early Ys saga. The fact that it even got an unofficial translation and dub left me gobsmacked

The voice acting is surprisingly good. You'd never know this wasn't an official release. It's a shame the PC Engine game has never been ported, the soundtrack is fantastic. Those who limited themselves to Nintendo missed out on so much in the early days of disc-based console games, this being a prime example. By the time the PlayStation arrived there was much more RAM and capabilities that rendered these "baby steps" obsolete (see Lunar MCD vs Lunar PS/SS).

This was the second RPG I played in my first DUO in the 90s, this one, Eternal Recurrence and Emerald Dragon, what a times.

I know these games - Dawn of Ys, Mask of the Sun, Wanderers from Ys - got replaced by remakes, but it's a shame they were never released as like "The Apocryphal Collection" or something. They're still solid games. Even Ys V is still playable and tells a decent story.

Love this game. One of the best Ys games ever.

It's definitely much better than the Super Famicom game; as much as I don't like the 'bump' combat, this is probably its best iteration too. Great music and fun world to traverse too. Well, the next one is Ys V which... let's just say, is one of the lower points of the franchise. :P

I like the music.

I can see why this is the non cannon version of the game. Adol boards a ship 3 times and doesn't get ship wrecked even once. No way that is valid in the Y's cannon.
@Snyperwolf914 ай бұрын
Well , in the world of YS , ships are build with Plotarmorium . Thats why Adol travels 9 times back and forth to do some adventurin'.

"Oh shit an English longplay of Dawn of Ys, the game whose Perfect Collection I've been listening to since the early 2010s? Hell yeah, how long has this been around-" (uploaded three months ago) "Holy shit" Extremely excited to be watching through this over the next day or two. Two minutes in and it's already peak

This far in the series you'd figure that they change expressions on some items... like The Power Ring should be, a or another power ring. (Lucky). Etc. 😂 But still, the greatest adventurer by far. I love most YS games. The fast paced action and troupes is kind of what ropes me in honestly. 🙏

She says "Selceta" at 33:34, was that a typo or Falcom just "retconned" the name to Celceta? 🤔
@NintendoComplete5 ай бұрын
I don't think the name Celceta had shown up yet in any English version of Ys before the patch was made. Selceta is a valid transliteration of the Japanese word, though. It's just not the one Falcom went with.

There's one thing about this game I'm still not sure about. In that cutscene where the people in masks are standing around the pillar and the mud (flesh?) creature is writhing, are they trying to resurrect Darm? It, and Darm, are never actually mentioned in the game outside of that opening cutscene.
@ryanschrafel95764 ай бұрын
They were trying to resurrect Arem, this game's final boss.
