Just love the pixel art style that’s so popular again, makes us over 40s gamers feel young again. This does look a great inclusion in the Ys collection for those of us who haven’t played the original games.

I’m so excited to dive into this video! I love your in depth reviews, trust your judgement and was waiting for your take on it! 😊 Origin was my first Ys game and it was fantastic! Then I played Ys 8, which needs no explanation for how mind blowing good that was! The settting, the characters, gameplay and music! I’m just starting Ys 9 now, and will be picking up Ys Memoire asap!

Oath in Felghana is the canonical version of Ys III. It was originally released in 2005. It is a mainline Ys game. There are very few Ys spinoffs, but there are a couple.

Correction: Almost everything in the General section of the Options Menu is similar to the PSP version. The Wing Talisman is also obtainable through normal means. Difficulty options are the same, too. The only few differences is that there's an option to change the character illustrations, Turbo Mode, and the ability to change the characters' VO's.

This was my very first Ys game I played. I am a huge fan of the series. I still own it on my psp. Unfortunately my psp stopped working. I was so excited to see this coming to the switch. Thanks for reviewing it.

Same here, but I've still got my psp and it does still work fine last time I checked (been a while admittedly), also still got 3 working vitas that again haven't been touched since switch release just about. They were great systems for their time imo though. Heck one of the vitas is still new in the box

The original Oath in Felghana already had the voice acting, but this is a nice interesting version to see for the Switch.

Omg Omg Omg! I just started the whole Ys games thing with Origins last week. I am at my third playthrough now so it is coming to an end soon and i thought the other ones don't look like Origins as i am a huge Alundra fan and it reminded me of that game and now there is this! The adventure continues!! Also please make a remake of Alundra who ever is reading this, it will make a lot of people very happy and you almost never ever hear anything about that game. 😄😍 Thanks for the review guys!

I loved Ys Origin too!! So much gameplay, with the three different playable characters. Watching this review makes me want to go back and start another play through of Origin. Love the art style! This new refresh looks smooth to play, but I think I’ll wait for a sale. Seems pricey (in Canada) right now, so I’ll see how long I can resist.

This style of Ys started with Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. Then they used that engine to make Oath, and finally Origins. So, if you like these two then Ark will give you more of that kinda gameplay (although, not AS refined since it was the first of them).

"Will you play this one? Did you play Ys III? Original release? PSP? etc...?" Yes to all of these. I just love Ys III and Oath to death! Until XSeed/Marvelous finally decided to bring it back in the West (I don't know why they waited for so long, still waiting for the Cold Steel 1 & 2 port on Switch that are already available in Japan), I was sure the PC-88 version of Ys III would be the only thing we would get on Switch in the West. And with Celceta and Ys VS. also announced, I'm so excited for Ys and the Switch in 2025! In any case, amazing review as always! I'm glad to see it's running great on Switch. I was hearing there was some performance problem back when it released in Japan, which was mind boggling for me. Great that everything was fixed.

Amazon dropped my copy off today. Super excited to get started. My first Ys game was VI, back in the twilight days of the psp, and never managed to find a copy of Oath. Super happy to have it in my collection now!

I picked this after revisiting the PC version on gog I bought years ago on my new legion go. I was put off by the pc version resolution as it under 720p and no resolution options in settings so you are stuck with it. As soon as I started this game the upscaled resolution makes a ton of difference. I am not worried about shadow resolutions as its on old game and we didn't worry about shadows and stuff back then especially on psp (I think I first played it there). It is a lot more smoother now to play on switch and for a remaster looks fantastic. I get finicky about fixed camera view in games but I have to remember I used to play most games like that. Great gameplay, nice polish on graphics makes this a must buy for me and so enjoying it. Next up is Freedom Wars on thursday which I still have a digital copy on my vita that I ditched playing again and waiting for the remaster.

Damn it really looks like something that scratches my brain in the good way. The artstyle, movement. Cutscenes, difficulty lvls, combat hacking and jumping. Ugh. But now I have to figure out where the franchise starts and what I have to know before this game etc. Also I'll wait for later for a sale. But it lands on my priority wishlist. Damn it.

I played Ys Origin, two playthroughs well enjoyed. This feels much in the same line as Origin. I may give it a chance at some point.

6:40 I'm not a PC graphics expert but dropping back real time shadows is a time-tested way to increase graphics performance on something that - in the heat of combat - the player rarely notices. They may have done that to up the performance.

This series is kind of a cult classic. Many of us just loves the games but you have to be comfortable with dated graphics (and sometimes gamedesign elements). But the YS action gameplay is probably the best in the genre.

As someone who played this game on the PSP, I can guarantee you. This was a great game and it still is. By the way, do they still have some of those funny outtake voice clips? Like with Chester and Dogi claiming he is a natural blue head according to Adol’s testimony

Huh, the bosses are the best part of this game. Boss Rush on Nightmare is quite the humbling experience the first time around. I agree that Ellefale is a bad boss, along with Gyalva. I think PC will still be my go to, as this version really doesn't add much to its PSP base. Definitely a very worthy pickup for those who haven't played the game before though!

Love Ys, even though X was a huge letdown compared to 8 and 9. Getting this for sure. It seems a bit more challenging than previous offerings, which is not a bad thing. Awesome soundtracks, satisfying combat and progression, colorful characters and mysterious self contained adventures. Thats Ys in a nutshell.

I would say yes. Especially because this is one of the hardest (if not the hardest one) games on the series, so if you can finish this, it's smooth sailing for the other games.

@@jesssealey6552 Nearly every game has the same protagonist (the redhead swordsman) but you don't need to play the other games, each one is pretty much their own set adventure so you're fine.
