Same! Grinding is my favorite part about completion. Level grinding, loot farming, etc. I enjoy "checking off the To-Do list" than I do playing thru the game hoping to god there isn't any missible content or the game to require a NG+ to complete. It can get rly stressful and annoying and demotivating.. Once you know the whole game, you feel like you're on top of the world and all you gotta do is grab whatever you missed. It's smooth sailing from there, and it's my favorite part. It's the part I look forward to when I get into a new game

I think I was always tangentially aware of the Ys series, and I first started super late with Ys VIII, which I absolutely loved. I recently picked up most of the Ys games on Steam and played through Chronicles I & II a few months back. Going through the games has been a fun trip through 80's and 90's gaming sensibilities. I'd definitely recommend folks grabbing Origin and the rest of the series if they can. It's a great way to get hyped up for Ys IX next year.

I wouldn't really call Ys Origin a grindy game unless you want to tank through bosses. You can get through without grinding if you are skilled enough. Also, I think the third character route should be a must since that's the canon route.
@alxjones4 жыл бұрын
Agreed that it's not grindy at all. If you're playing the game as intended and keeping up your combo exp bonus as much as possible, and also getting all the treasures (and remember to go back to camp to upgrade your weapon!), you should be able to make it through with very little difficulty on Normal.

What did you think of it?
@buddhabinaural4 жыл бұрын
I have Origin and Ys8 and prefer Origin, I actually own it twice on PS4 and Switch. I have one issue , I started on medium setting but I hit a difficulty spike where I had to grind loads, I got bored grinding (although grinding on this is pretty fun for a while), so I replayed it on easy from the start, which was then too easy. Regardless of this issue I love Origin. The graphics are amazing and the sound is amazing. The graphics really suit the game, all of the styling just works with the music, story and gameplay. The OST is fantastic. The gameplay is a ton of fun. Even the stories were good. It is just so well made. I couldn't give a shit about it being 14 years old. I think it pisses all over many of todays AAA titles. I don't care if games are 16 bit, or full video style but I have to feel immersed, the visuals, sound and fun have to pull me into the game world. This game had me immersed in the game world. It was a great adventure. If you like action rpg, adventure, puzzles, hack and slash and fun, then buy this game.

In my opinion, Origins is better than Oath. I think a lot of the polish has been added in the re-releases on Steam and now Switch, but it's also got interesting movement options for each of the characters which helps keep the flow going. I'm also a fan of single-location stories, and Origins takes place entirely in the tower, which gives it a very streamlined feel keeps the story and characters focused. It's the kind of game you play more than once (3 times at least for the full story) but since the game is more-or-less the same, you get faster and faster each time. I highly recommend this game, especially if you enjoyed Oath since the mechanics are very similar.

Ys is like the French version of Atlantis. There's a legend about a King who built a kingdom on an island, and then one day the princess floods the kingdom and kills everyone except the King. I think the devs expect people to beat the game with each character, since the third character you unlock only after beating the game once and iirc there’s a dlc character as well. I haven’t played this, but I think the story connects back to the first Ys titles to some degree, since so many Ys games talk about the history of whatever place Adol is in at the time and how that affects the present day.

So, the game is only 7 hours long? I'm not going to play the game again with a different character. Not sure why developers always do this. Just make the game longer then you wouldn't have to have replayability.

Each route doesn't just change the playable character; it also changes the plot and some of the boss fights and puzzles. Personally, I think the real problem is that, out of all three routes, only the secret unlockable route is canon. If all three had been written to be canon, that would improve the story significantly and make playing as all three characters even more worth it.
