Who else is getting strong Rachmaninov vibes because of the way this is arranged? Really cool by the way, thanks for sharing!

I don't know how strong, but definitely Rachmaninoff.

I'm not familiar with rach's way of transcribing pieces, can you explain for this is rach's style?
@ravenmischke89052 жыл бұрын
@@rainchen7846 I'm also not familiar with Rachmaninoff's style of arranging (don't know if he did any). What I meant to say was that the way this arrangement sounds it could have been an original piece for piano by Rachmaninoff. This piano arrangements adds lots of notes (tastefully, in my opinion) like contrary motion in left and right hand, some two against three motions, and cascading arpeggio's. Not an expert at Rachmaninoff, nor at piano, but it was just my impression. :)

That “vibe” sounds more Scriabin than Rachmaninoff to me.
@griffinhaltom81442 жыл бұрын
@@fyliao I think that's Ysaye's composing. The extensive use of melodic chords and in general the more maximist pianism makes me think of Rachmaninoff's piano writing.

...now hold on one minute! Actually, being a violinist and pianist this is a great idea. It only further displays Ysaÿe's compositional variety and genius. A harmonic richness that only violinists were privy to knowing. And quite a few sections benefit from the polyphonic fleshing out that the piano affords. Bravo.

Truly a piece between the ages and styles. Starting with Expressionism, then trying desperately to hold on to Late Romanticism, a brief impressionistic interlude, and then back to firmly re-establishing the piece itself in late romantic tonality.

Ever since I heard this piece for the first time (rendition of Vengerov), I absolutely adored it. However, I did have some trouble understanding the underlying harmony starting at 3:36. This arrangement with the added harmonies in the left hand at 3:44 makes so much sense and so beautiful, I prefer this piano arrangement over the violin one. (I am a pianist so I may be biased).

Your transcription is beautiful. I always thought Ysaÿe's music as full of "chopinesque" vibes, it becomes even more obvious here. The great belgian virtuoso is too often underrated as a composer, so you do him justice here. Great work and interpretation !

Great playing and wonderful transcription! So interesting to hear this on piano. It underscores how unique Ysaye's language as a composer was.
@reggiefrank6 жыл бұрын
Interestingly enough this piece was specifically written to emphasize and celebrate one of ysaye's contemporaries at the time, so maybe you should check out George Enescu too! Ysaye actually did this with with all 6 of his sonatas to pay homage to different European composers of his time and their unique sound.
@coloraturaElise5 жыл бұрын
I completely understand what you mean about needing to play this on your instrument; I've only discovered the piece in the past month, and I keep listening and searching for someone who will play it the way I hear it! (I'm a clarinetist and opera singer.) I think your version is very successful; it works so well that it almost sounds like Ysaye really meant to write it for piano.

Thank you for transcribing this music so effectively! I'd love to see the score, though I couldn't play it because of the stretches. If you ever decide to sell the sheet music, please let us all know! Also, for your information: the composer Ronald Stevenson transcribed all six of Ysaye's Solo Violin Sonatas for piano. The first two are on a CD played by Murray McLachlan, and can be heard on KZbin. I don't know if the sheet music is available.

wow! great job! i play violin , the 6 sonatas of ysaye are my favorite pieces next to Bach's. your transcription gives me the same pleasure as Busoni's transcription of the chaccone . just a little idea : maybe you could sometimes use the left hand to bring out the main melody line to create more symphonic effect though that would distract the original score.. blessing!
@kahahabahaha5 ай бұрын
The score is slightly different than what is played here. Should I assume the performed version is the later version? A few sections have a little more going on for both hands, and notably, the sempre dolce at 3:43 only has the first note of each bar on the left hand notated
@gesh922 ай бұрын
That sounds disappointing. I also bought the score hoping it's this exact arrangement. :(

@@gesh92 It's very close, i think only two or three sections have some missing things on the left hand, but I haven't learned the whole thing yet so maybe a few more I haven't noticed. I emailed Blue Griffin asking about this very thing, and Mr. Kvitko himself responded saying that he wrote this many years ago, and even lost one of his original transcripts at some point.
