These are my absolute favorite lipstick, but i find that it's difficult to get them to last very long. They're so moisturizing and comfortable on the lips but they just disappear on me after a short while.

You have such a good point. I have a few MAC lipsticks and one YSL lipstick and I can honestly say I think it is worth maybe trying YSL out if you have the money. I got a nude shade and I wear it quite often. But honestly, MAC lipsticks are my favorite and I would rather buy, say, 2 of those for 1 of these.

Nearly every makeup counter allows consumers to try on a product in the store. I think I'll have to try it on and wear it for a bit, maybe walk around the mall for a while and see how it wears. I've read reviews of individuals complaining that the lipsticks are not long wearing and require frequent re-application throughout the day. For 30-55 dollars (location pending, I guess) I better get a lipstick that lasts all day. Though, I mean, we can't lie to ourselves: whipping out a tube like that in the coffee shop to do a touch up would make us feel pretty glamorous. ;) What was your experience like with the YSL? Do you feel the reviews of the lipstick's longevity are accurate?

They are very comfortable and they last a few hours (on me). It feels as though the lipstick actually dries or sets after a while, although it does not dry out my lips. I think some believe that the longevity is not good because they can no longer feel the lipstick after only a short period of time. I noticed this, but when I looked in the mirror, the color was still there. Overall, I think the longevity is good, but not any better than some cheaper lipsticks that I love. For example, my MAC lipsticks last roughly the same amount of time. I think the price mainly has to do with ingredients, packaging, and the fact that YSL is a couture brand. I would go to the store/mall and see if you can try them out, like you said. The formula is unlike anything I have ever tried! The lipsticks are super expensive though, and I will probably not purchase any more.

FayeT Rose No, I'm pretty sure the price difference is HUGE. YSL is a more high end and I believe it's considered a couture brand kind of like Chanel.

FayeT Rose I can imagine it's very expensive... In my opinion, I would just go with MAC. It's more of a "safe" purchase. YSL is nice to try, and although the formula of their lipsticks is great, I think you're paying more for the brand and the packaging. Also, if you like MAC lipsticks, then I don't know how you'll feel about YSL. The textures are very different. Also, MAC lipsticks seem to last longer. I live in the US. One MAC lipstick costs about $16 and one YSL lipstick costs about $35. I'm sure it's way more expensive in Australia. :( Overall, I would stick with MAC. Their cremesheen finishes are my favorite.

935 dollars worth of lipstick. So... a whole drawer full of lipstick in every shade imaginable? No. 17 tubes. For the same price I could gather roughly 62 tubes of MAC lipstick. I suppose if you have the money to spend, I have little doubt the YSL lipsticks are absolutely luxurious and feel like a combination of pillows, cherub cheeks, baby butts, velvet and silk. However, MAC has an impressive color selection and impeccable opacity on a large majority of the finishes, and they're only (on average) 15 dollars a tube. I understand that Yves St. Laurent (or St. Laurent now) is a couture label, so of course the consumer is expected to pay couture price. You ain't gonna get Yves St. Laurent in the 3 dollar bargain bin. Got it, cool. On the other side of THAT coin, unless the wearer has the letters Y-S-L painted on the lips, who is going to know the brand of that lipstick unless the wearer whips the tube out of pocket or purse and shoves it in every stranger's face? Isn't that the point of spending the extra cash? Displaying a brand for onlookers to demonstrate wealth and social class? Granted that's usually only the mindset of douchebags, and some people are decent human beings who spend the extra cash only so the quality of the product isn't compromised. However, there are lipsticks of EQUAL quality available for a fraction of the price. So if the point isn't for showing off the brand, what is? With clothing you can usually observe (with a trained eye) the brand and the quality of the fabric right off the bat. With makeup, the differences in branding are subtle if detectable at all. With most of the YSL swatches presented, I could name a MAC dupe right off the top of my head, and maybe a 20 dollar Lancome dupe for the more "mature" colors. So I guess what I'm saying is I cannot find a justification for the will to spend that amount of money on a lipstick no matter how rich you are. I'm not trying to hate, merely trying to understand and process. I'm a fan of Devil's Advocate and viewing most matters from multiple perspectives, and I sincerely cannot personally find a reason for purchasing the YSL lipstick over MAC or other middle shelf brands. I suppose the tubes ARE exquisite, and once the product runs out, the tubes could be saved and used for re-potted lipsticks and kept forever...I guess that's pretty cool.

I'd much rather take the 62 tubes of MAC please... I believe in quality over quantity, but there gets to a point where the differences in quality are about the same, some are just insanely price, while others are moderate. MAC has very nicely priced lipsticks for their quality. I'm not a fan of MAC eyeshadows that much, or their other products for that matter, but their lipsticks are amazing. And for only being a few dollars more than a drugstore lipstick, I'd say they are a fantastic deal. However I have to admit I do like some other brands of lipsticks like Kat Von D and Urban Decay xD But I could never justify spending $30 or more on a lipstick. Around $25 is my limit, lol.

Mac lipsticks are $36 in Australia, ysl ones are $50 so I guess for a little extra Chloe would rather but the ysl, although I'd prefer the variety MAC has!

But you didnt take into consideration, I'm assuming your American,if I'm wrong I apologize, the price difference. In Australia mac is almost triple what it is here. Ysl is only 35$ here. So there you would only be spending roughly 15$ more for the ysl and it is luxury for that fact. Also the wages there is more than here in America so it kinda sorta balance out but don't get me wrong they still pay rediculous prices such as 40$ for Revlon colorstay

I don't own ANY designer ANYTHING, status means nothing to me. I don't walk around saint what brand makeup I wear. MAC cream lipstick lasts all of 30 minutes after drinking from a glass WITH lipliner. MAC is actually one of the most overrated designer lipstick on the high end range because it is the cheapest of them ALL. Their Mattes are ALL drying and if you ask an actual makeup artist they will agree that Chanel & NARS are actually the best lipstick formulas. The best drugstore brands are Revlon Lipstick and L'Oreal Glosses. Actually MAC shades are either neutral, Crazy Bright, or Reds. They don't have a good selection of Berry, Plums or Roses. Every Line has their weakness. MAC caters to the young generation who like pinks and crazy colors. If you are looking for a brand of with a ridiculous color palette go with Make Up For Ever.

I love 12 out of your 16 shades!! Omg your pink selections are amazing! Love every single one!! I am SO happy you did this video!!!!! I've been debating on whether or not to buy a Ysl lipstick but the only high end lipsticks I've ever bought were Lancome/Christian Dior ones and I didnt know how the Ysl ones would fare in terms of creaminess and pigment and I didnt want to just go out and buy one since they are on the pricey side, but this video really reaaallly helped me. I have #9, #11, and #13. my favourite is #9 caress pink, its the most perfect pink on me and the texture and pigmentation is perfect! I love love love rouge volupte texture they're so buttery and soft and the pigmentation is awesome. I think next i'm gonnna buy ultimate beige, it looks pretty on you :)
