Ystudio Classic Desk Pen Review

Ystudio has US distribution from Kenro Industries, so that means they're much easier to find than they used to be. I'm a big fan of desk pens, copper is anti-microbial, and I'm at my desk a whole lot these days. So, is this pen a perfect fit? Watch and find out!

Thanks for the review. You seem very forgiving of the dumping of the "thin" ink into the holder. That seems like a fairly significant design flaw, even if you can resolve it by using a different ink. Should the consumer have to monitor what kind of ink they can use in a pen, for inks that are not a known risk like sparkly or iron-gall? Or is ink-dumping a risk with all desk pens when the pen is upright?

I think it's reasonable to say that some pens aren't good with some inks. The thin ink is a special quality just like a shimmer or some such. It's got its place, and that's not in a pen that points down all the time. (I've had it fall out of other pens, too, actually.) Remember that all fountain pens are basically a slow leak, and so pointing it down all the time is bound to accelerate that leak in some cases. I've had the same sort of thing happen in other desk pens, too, including venerable Sheaffer and Esterbrook pens.

Thanks, Mike-nice, balanced, informative review...Thinking about getting the brassing desk pen version, but the Schmidt nib in my smaller brass Ystudio pen is kinda soft and falls easily out of alignment. Might the desk pen's nib be replaced by another #6...?

My #6 Schmidt isn't soft at all, so that might not be an issue for you. I just cleaned out my pen and tried to fit other nibs to it, but the feed and housing are very specific, so nothing fit the size or curvature. I tried Knox, JoWo, and Bock nibs in it.
