The part of the movie where the horse ate all the food on the lifeboat was kind of a dick move from the horse. Though they are big animals and do eat about 15 pounds of hay a day. They were lucky it wasn't a bear though. Even if a bear didn't try to eat them, bears need about twice that much in food a day in the spring and summer and up to 6 times that in the fall
