In TCG and OCG. Vier is a Trigger effect so it goes on a chain with Core before the opponent has a chance to respond. Definitely my first thought on his profile

That's incorrect. If they have a response they can respond before vier activates

Check Judge's Lounge for "Vier" and you'll see extensive discussion about it. Vier is indeed a Trigger effect and can be used to "chain block" Core from an effect like Ash (or Tri-Gate, Mechaba, etc)

My mistake about OCG, apparently there Trigger effects that activate in non-public knowledge areas are treated like Quick effects. Definitely all good in TCG though
