The red ogre card is actually depicted as a Tao priestess which is fairly common in Japan. Basically their job is to bless others and banish evil spirits with special paper which the card depicts. They are often associated with the fire element as the paper will burn on contact with an evil object or being.

I love this archetype! I also love how their names are literally made to look like it's their name but has soo many play of words. here's my try of explaining what they mean. warning: it's long. 灰流うらら reads as Haru Urara. 灰 grey, 流 flowing while うらら is an expression came from the word 麗らか(uraraka) which expresses a warm-bright sunny day. thus giving a spring vibe to it. the name is also a play of words for 「春麗ら」 which indicate as Spring season being a warm-sunny day. 幽鬼うさぎ reads as Yuuki Usagi. 幽 ghost, 鬼 demon while うさぎ is just that, a rabbit. combining it, while mean it as Ghost-demon Rabbit. it's just a name just like anime characters. also fun fact: Usagi is also a common name here in japan. it's also often used to express something cute, kawaii. so having Ghost-demon as you first name then having a cute last name is kinda ironic. 座敷わらし reads as Zashiki-Warashi. 座 sit, 敷 room. combining these two makes a word for 座敷(zashiki) usually refers to a room with tatami mats as its flooring. it's mainly referred to as the main room(lounge) of a traditional japanese household. now, comes the fun part: わらし(warashi) it is also known as in it's kanji as 童 which is child. combine the last one with this becomes 座敷童(zashiki-warashi). Child in the living room if translated directly. It is a youkai which I will not explain it here due to having so much texts in this comment right now. though being a youkai it is also a deity. so there's that too. 浮幽さくら reads as Fuyu Sakura. 浮 to float, 幽 ghost, さくら cherry-blossom. this one is just straight forward just like Yuuki Usagi. A Floating (Spoopy)Ghost girl who's name is Sakura. Now then comes her design. Why have a scythe that is often expressed to death? well comes the Sakura part. You see, there was a legend that Cherry-blossom despite blooming once a year only to then wither after a few days, there was a legend of a samurai who felt said about this fact, committed suicide via seppuku besides the tree because he decided to "give its own life to the tree". Then, after a few days upon that day, the tree blossomed again and has never withered since then to this day. Now it became some sort of stereotype where cherry-blossoms that blooms forever are often have dead bodies under them(just like that one character from a bullet shooter-game) and are now often related to death. 儚無みずき reads as Hana Mizuki. 儚 faint/short-lived, 無 none, みずき(mizuki) is often used as a female name. this is another play of words and combining it makes 花水木(hana-mizuki). it's a flower named in english as the Cornus florida. Now why does a card named after that has a connection to undead or a ghost-looking little girl wearing a nun outfit who gives you life(or take half of your life) as an effect has to do with that? well comes to its flower language. Hana-mizuki's flower language is "To give/To give back". Thus explaining it's monster-effect too. 朔夜しぐれ reads as Sayo Shigure. 朔 new moon, 夜 night, しぐれ this is usually a name too but it also could be 時雨(shigure) in kanji. Which is rainy night if translated. Now this name in particular, has nothing to do with youkai or any of the sort when I looked it up. The only thing I know is that 朔夜(sayo) means the start of the first night. which can be speculated to be a synonym of some sort of the beginning of something. whilst Shigure does has something to do with rain and rain can be referred to as tears. hence that one famous anime line in fma. so it's something about that. since 朔 does refers to moons, it might have something to do with a folk-lore called "Taketori Monogatari" which is about a princess who came from the moon called Kaguya and having eternal life and all that. Meaning that this girl on the card is someone from the moon hence being a youkai/other-worldly being. that's all I have. thanks for reading this whole long paragraph of mine lol

I think the last Ghost-Girl card, a.k.a Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill, referred to the story of Kaguya (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter). One day in the bamboo forest, an old bamboo cutter comes across a mysterious, shining stalk of bamboo. When he cuts it open, he is surprised to find an infant the size of his thumb inside. The old man and his wife, who have no children of their own, decide to raise the infant as their own daughter, and name her Nayotake no Kaguya-hime ("Shining Princess of the Young Bamboo"). From that moment on, every time the man cuts a stalk of bamboo, he finds a small nugget of gold inside. The family soon grows rich, and within just three months, Kaguya-hime grows from an infant into a woman of ordinary size and extraordinary beauty. At first, the old man tries to keep news of Kaguya-hime away from outsiders, but as word of her beauty spreads, she attracts many suitors who seek her hand in marriage. After rejecting many proposals via impossible tasks, the Emperor of Japan comes to visit Kaguya-hime and, after falling in love, asks her hand in marriage. Although he is not subjected to an impossible trial, Kaguya-hime rejects his request for marriage as well, telling him that she is not from his country and therefore cannot go to the palace with him. She remains in contact with the Emperor, but continues to rebuff his proposals. Three years pass as they continue to communicate by letter. From then, whenever Kaguya-hime views the full moon, her eyes fill with tears. Though her adoptive parents grow very worried and question her, she refuses to tell them what is wrong. Her behaviour becomes increasingly erratic until she reveals that she is not of the Earth and that she must return to her people on the Moon. In some versions, it is said that she was sent to the Earth, where she would inevitably form material attachment, as a punishment for some crime, while in others, she was sent to Earth for her safety during a celestial war. The gold was a stipend from the people of the Moon, sent to pay for Kaguya-hime's upkeep. As the day of her return approaches, the Emperor sends his guards to protect her from the Moon's people, but when an embassy of heavenly beings descends upon the bamboo cutter's house, the guards are blinded by a strange light. Kaguya-hime announces that, though she loves her many friends on Earth, she must return with the beings to her true home on the Moon. She writes sad notes of apology to her parents and to the Emperor, then gives her parents her own robe as a memento. She then takes a little of the elixir of immortality, attaches it to her letter to the Emperor, and gives it to the guard officer. As she hands it to him, a feather robe is placed on her shoulders, and all of her sadness and compassion for the people of the Earth are apparently forgotten. The entourage ascends into the sky, taking Kaguya-hime back to "the Capital of the Moon" and leaving her earthly foster parents in tears. The old couple become very sad and are soon put to bed sick. The officer returns to the Emperor with the items Kaguya-hime gave him as her last mortal act, and reports what happened. The Emperor reads her letter and is overcome with sadness, and asks his servants, "Which mountain is the closest place to Heaven?"; in response, one suggests the Great Mountain of Suruga Province (a.k.a Mount Fuji). The Emperor then orders his men to take the letter to the summit of the mountain and burn it, in the hope that his message would reach the distant princess. They are also ordered to burn the elixir of immortality, as the Emperor does not wish to live without being able to see her. (Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Bamboo_Cutter)

So one of the scripts in Japanese - Kanji - can have several different characters that are pronounced the same way, but rely on the character's writing itself and context to get the meaning across. In the example you gave, "Fuyu Sakura," the "fuyu" almost immediately translated to "winter" for me, but the Kanji used was not the Kanji for winter. Using this Kanji changes the meaning of the word to what you later stated, "drifting ghost" I believe (can't check because I'm doing this on my phone). I knew this was occurring in Japanese, but chalked it up to the equivalent of a pun in English, I'm glad I've finally found the word for it! Cheers guys.

So the Fuyu for winter is written different, but is still pronounced Fuyu? Just making sure I understand. So Fuyu 'spoken' can mean both WInter and Drifting Ghost? If right, okay I think I might understand. Like Sail, Cell, and Sell. All can easily sound the same when said, but written it conveys something very different.

The characters are a result of kanji having both a meaning and a reading. Readings are often the same due to the way Japanese is structured, but the kanji can have different meanings. e.g. The "Yuki" in Ghost Ogre's Japanese name is using the kanji for "Ghost Demon" while the reading of "yuki" means "snow." so reading the name aloud, a listener would probably assume the name is "Snow Rabbit" while the name in writing directly means "Ghost Demon Rabbit." It's like using homonymn in English for a name, but they can directly point out the homonym in the text.

Weeping Ara and Gloomy Nights Level 3 Water Zombie Attack 0 Defense 1800 If your opponent activates a Counter Trap you can chain this cards effects to that card. During either players turn when your opponent activates a card or effect that would require them to pay life points you can discard this card from your hand and if you do activate each of the following effects. Your opponent must pay twice the life points needed to activate a card or effect that requires you to pay life points. Your opponent cannot gain life points for the rest of the turn. Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects that requires either player to pay life points for the rest of the turn. Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to the activation and effects of Weeping Ara and Gloomy Nights. You only use each effect of Weeping Ara and Gloomy Nights once per turn. You cannot activate cards or effects that requires you to pay life points. Edit I added in some text that I forgot to add into the card. I made the card spell speed four so it will counter the Solemn Brigade and prevent your opponent from using them again or taking 6000 of your opponents life points away. If they are using Aromages that is a death sentence since they could also not be able to gain life points. I also made it so that all of those effects activate at once. This makes the card really good at stopping the Solemn archetype.
@SheruMuko4 жыл бұрын
What can I say I am a pro at this. Over 500 cards and many archetypes I personally developed. One of them was very similar to the Ghost Girl archetype and were actually inspired by them. They discarded themselves from your hand for no effect. That is until you read the next line of text. When this card is discarded which means your opponent must negate the effect that activated from the graveyard not the hand. All level 4 Fire attribute pyro type monsters with 0 attack and defense. Two Level 2 tuners that special summon and search out the other monsters. Only consists of their monsters and synchro monsters. Win condition is burn damage. They get all of their monsters into the graveyard and summons their link 5 which can only be special summoned by the effect of one of their synchros. That monster inflicts damage to your opponent for every one of their monsters in their graveyard with different names. They are all named after different weapons and fighting styles. That and volcanoes that are well known. Example Volcanic Blade.

I don't know about effects cuz I'm not super involved in the meta but I thought of some extra Yokai Girls after a quick search of Japanese folktales and found two, one I was familiar with and one I just discovered, to base them on, the decision swayed by both tales being referenced in one of my favorite videogames of all time--Okami "Moon Ghost and Bamboo Grove" based on the tale of Kaguya and the Bamboo Cutter "Ghost Sparrow and Twin Vessels" based on the tale of the Tongue-Cut Sparrow

幽鬼うさぎ/Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit 幽鬼=Ghost Ogreうさぎ=Rabbit. 幽鬼have similar pronunciation with 雪(snow), hence the Snow Rabbit name. 浮幽さくら/Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries 浮幽= Floating Ghost さくら=Cherries. 浮幽 pronunciation is ふゆ, which is same as 冬(winter), combine to be Winter Cherries, a species of Cherries that blossom in winter. 灰流うらら/Ash Blossom & Joyous Springはる 灰流= ash flow うらら=beautiful or bright. 灰流 pronunciation is similar to 春(spring). Deck is also called "card mountain" in Japanese (her effect deal with deck), Ash flow is related to volcano, hence the fire type. Also by the art of cherries blossom in the background and her dog ears, a white dog from a Japanese fairy tail is the motif of the design. 屋敷わらし/Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion 屋敷= house. 屋敷わらしhave similar pronunciation with 座敷わらし, a type of house fairy in Japanese fairy tail, said to protect the family, bring luck and fortune. Also, 朔 mean new moon, hence the new moon in the background.

I believe they still going to make some more. We still dont have one that stops your opponent from banishing from Deck, Hand and/or Grave (just like Artifact Lancea). Ash stops any interaction with the deck, Belle stops any interactions with the graveyard.

Great vid mate! This is an awesome video and very informative! You never fail to entertain! So my ghost girl would be; "Ghost girl hopeful". She would be a light attribute card with the effects of; Once per duel, you can draw one card from your deck and activate or summon it, disregarding it's summoning/activation mode." I don't know if that last bit is clear enough. I'm trying to say that if it's a trap, it can be played immediately, if it's a normal spell, it can be played during any phase, blah blah blah.

Red blossom from underroot feels like it belongs with these cards, despite not being a level 3 psychic/zombie hand trap
I wonder if they'll ever make a "Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon" girl for this series 🤓

Basically, most kanji in Japanese can be used as two different words when paired with other specific characters, such as hirigana or other kanji. A good example is the kanji for body, "karada" (体). When attaching hirigana "mi" (み) it becomes "yasumi" (休み), which is the word for break (as in time off). In this case instead of representing "karada" (からだ) it represented "yasu" (やす) in 休み. There are other examples but I'm still learning.

I adore Ash Blossom. I know it is painful to be ashed but if we are to judge a card by its impact to the game, no one can ever overstate the importance of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. It is the fifth most used card of all time with only Twin Twisters ahead of it not being significantly earlier released. The price factor might have played a role here for Ash Blossom to not be more used as it was quite pricy in the past. The card not only got its own series of merch, it got its own verb in the Yu-Gi-Oh! slang. To be ashed is an expression every YGO player and enthusiast will recognize. To know the card's art and name are based on a myth and a word play make me even happier as I love when devs do that.

Fun little fact about Ghost Ogre and Snow Rabbit. There is alot of fan art depicting her with just her right arm. It was thought because of her original artwork that she lost the left one somewhere before her departing and this would be why she had unfinished business. However upon receiving the alternative artwork it did reveal she does has both arms. Edit: As for my favorite card, that would be Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring, as that card is simply broken when it comes to disruptive plays. Visually I like Ghost Reaper and Winter Cherries the most.

I was thinking of like Konami releasing Male Counterparts to these Ghost Girls, and calling the Male Counter Parts Oni/Demons. They would have 1 common affect to search out their female counterpart when summoned to the field in anyway (hard once per turn), and then they would have an affect that stops certain specific things such as the male counterpart for Ghost Ogre could stop pendulum summoning

I'm not a Japanese, but Chinese also have this "Ateji" thing. In Chinese, even though the words are different, some have the same sound. Example: 你 and 擬. Both have the same pronunciation (Ni), but the meaning of the words are different. 你 means you, 擬 the words itself has meaning like copy, imitate. So, the ghost girls name is as you said, when spoken, it sounds like "A", but the words that's used means "B" instead. Imagine it as a pun in English if I have to say, like "Gold fish in a tank", but the tank means the machine used in war instead of a glass bowl.

I feel like Droll & Lock Bird should be an honorary member of this archetype due to it's similar naming convention in English and also having an anti-meta handtrap effect.
