That's because this game was based on the later half (Season 3/4) of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. During that time, they decided to change his character design for whatever reason (probably to make him look older). Thus, more bad ass and less childish.

@ aris224 Both of Billman's monsters were in defense mode, so attacking with Gaia wouldn't of made a difference either way Zane did it. All he wanted to do was kill off Gaia and get another Cyber Dragon by sacrificing Gaia before the end of his turn. Zane could of been under the impression that since Bill had 3 cards face-down, Bill could cancel the attacks and end the turn, giving Bill Gaia again.

It's so stupid that 4th season of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is made on Japanese language, and there isn't English version of it. There is one version with English subtitles, but names are different for example: Jaden Yuki is called Judai-kun. Names of cards are different, too for example: Polymerization is called Fusion.
