Yeah they pretty much are because of the amount of script changes. I could honestly say the same thing of a lot of dubbed anime in this era. Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, and Yu Yu Hakusho all had drastically different scripts in English. While in some cases it worked like Yu Yu Hakusho where the script was very different but kept the original intent of the author and mostly just modified things like jokes and joke timing to make sense in English, shows like Yu Gi Oh, Gundam Wing, and Dragon Ball Z got butchered in localization. The old Funimation dub script is really bad, and the voice acting took a significant dip when they switched casts from the Ocean Group Vancouver cast to the in house Texas cast because the Texas cast was at the time inexperienced. And then you have Gundam Wing where the voice acting was just shit and nobody was giving it their all

everyone: where’s the d-d-d-duel!?? me: wait they edited the back of the cards too!?
@woollypar3534 жыл бұрын
Wtf, they did. I just thought it was like that in the anime because it would be hard to draw the cards correctly in every frame, but no. 4kidz ACTUALLY changed the backs of the cards so they wouldn't look the way they do in the actual card game. My guess is because they didn't own the rights to the actual card game, they were only allowed to dub it, but that just doesn't make any sense. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would change it, that's just more work.
@silvershadow61164 жыл бұрын
Woolly PAR nah it’s because they’d have to pay some kind of fee because the show would be considered advertising it’s why the cards were changed
@neverbackdown19184 жыл бұрын
Starry Serenity guys, product placement is not allowed at things directly aimed at children. Since the show directly impacts the real life game, it is considered a product. That’s why they can’t show the real back in the dub.
@lpfan44913 жыл бұрын
It is kinda great that they were able to show the cardfronts in the pyramid movie. Sadly, the english version is even more trash then the rest of the dub there because the movie was originally commissioned by 4kids.

@thedarkspirit50844 жыл бұрын
You got a point there. Though I think they should redub this from Funimation.
@neverbackdown19184 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Yes, 4Kids butchered the show, but it’s not exactly their fault. America is a prude country in general. Sex, religion besides Christianity/Catholicism, and many more things are extremely taboo and 4 kids obviously knew this. They might have butchered some amazing shows, but the popularity of YGO and Pokémon wouldn’t be as big today if it weren’t for them.
@litboy69174 жыл бұрын
