Fossil Dyna destroys special summoned monsters so how can the gate guardian summon pieces to field? Dyna shouldn’t be destroyed by battle.

the battle still goes through like normal. so, Fossil Dyna will still be destroyed by battle, but its effect when it's flipped face-up will still apply since it has to be flipped anyway.
