The scene when Quattro (I'm a filthy dub watcher sorry) first summons giant killer is so much more impactful in the sub. A big theme in zexal was the idea that the monsters feel things and have emotions of their own. So to see giant killer literally grind them to death before our eyes was a huge shock. such a shame it was all changed

Realistically, (I'm guilty of poor judgment as well) Zexal is actually a great Yu-Gi-Oh! spin-off. Yes, the story started off slow and Yuma was a bit annoying, but the overall story was pretty solid. Sadly enough both 5D's and Arc-V are guilty of executive meddling to highest variety. Zexal is really good and I hope this message will motivate you to give it (Subbed) a 2nd chance.

That's a shame the dub unnecessarily cut so many great scenes of Zexal, especially so many scenes which established the backstories of many of the characters, as well as demonstrated their development. 4Kids didn't want to tell you this, but Mizael kidnapped him and brought him to the Barian world. Dueling Don Thousand and giving Numeron Dragon to Yuma was all a ploy to hide Kaito from Yuma and his friends. He wasn't released until Astral used the Numeron Code to free him.

Recently finished watching Zexal (Dub) and From what I remember they actually do state Orbital 7’s purpose. It was changed from: “Sacrifice himself to protect Hart and Kite” to “Babysit/raise Hart”. I never would have guessed what it actually was because the explanation coincided pretty well with the flashback pictures, so I just assumed it was true. I did however know about Kite’s Death being censored which is still weird.

regarding #4 of the list, 4kids generally removed kanji from cards in the English versions which they did in this shot aswell and I guess while they were doing that they noticed "Hm, this looks like he's flipping someone off" not being in the context of the show anymore because they are supposed to remove the kanji from the card and then just went ahead and made it so he was holding the card differently, too while they were at it.

I sat there with my whole family (my stepdad actually doesn't mind yugioh at times) and I was ASTOUNDED the dub didn't mention anything about that. and then Yuma pulls off Number 0, like I'm sorry, we get no explanation for any of that stuff in the dub, in the sub the realization explains Zexal, why Astral was partnered up with Yuma and not anyone else, why Yuma can't be possessed by the numbers, Yuma's shining draws and the creation of Number F0 (Yes, there was two instances of this, against Eliphas and in the ceremonial duel against issues) and then in the dub you're left questioning it all 4Kids messed up there big time when dubbing these two episodes in particular by leaving that little tidbit out, likely for no reason

When it comes to dub changes in zexal, what comes to mind is how they made certain characters more heartless like mizael for instance. When he won against III and V, he originally said "farewell dear brothers" while in the dub it was changed to "good riddance" or when he was dueling against Kaito. HE tells him that he is fighting for the sake of barian world and astral said that their is no one left TO protect because thousand absorbed his comrades, he was visibly shocked and couldn't believe it but the dub changed the first part to he is fighting for himself and the second was removed completely I honestly don't hate English dubs but I HATE when they do this crap

Been a dub watcher my whole life and Zexal is by far my favorite series. Sure it will never be as good as what people say the sub is, but I love the dub for what it is. This series has replaced Blue-Eyes as my favorite monster with Galaxy-Eyes just because of the chant Kite says upon summoning it. The number one thing stopping people giving the dub a chance is Yuma's voice. I wouldn't say it's horrible, but it does take until about episode 4 to get completely used to it, which I'm completely fine with since Yuma's dub voice fits the way his character is portraid.

Most of the name changes were either simple shortened versions or something genius. With III and his brothers, the dub kept the number theme, and did it well. Also, the whole thing with Kite holding Photon Wind? I think he might have had his thumb behind it or something. A third thing, there is the ending

The Zexal Dub actually got me back into YuGiOh after I skipped the latter half of season 4 and season five of the original, GX and 5DS. Sure, I admit that the dub is cringey at times, but it was one of those saturday morning cartoons I'd love to watch every week. And I was renewed interest in the TCG because of it! For that, I will always thank Zexal.

To be honest, when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh, handling romance isn't exactly their strong suit. There are so many moments & hints showing that it might be possible that certain main characters will end up with the girl that has a crush on him, but a lot of them don't end up together in the anime. Aside from Yuma and Tori I believe. I think the biggest slap in the face was definetly GX with them teasing a possible romance between Jaiden & Alexis.

I know I’m a little late to catch this video, but it was really well done and it’s crazy to see just how much they alter the show from sub to dub (especially with some of the shows greatest moments)! I actually just finished Yugioh Zexal a couple days ago and I have to say that you should never always trust what you hear from others because this Yugioh series to me was actually really good. After watching this, I will say in my opinion that the build up of Yuma and Astral’s relationship was a lot better done than Yami and Yugi’s relationship because there was a balance on which one of them would duel and you get to see Yuma grow as a duelist and over time not need Astral’s help all too much. I will also agree with Dylan on this that you should definitely give the sub a chance (I tried listening to a little bit of the dub and that did not last too long) because it’s actually a pretty enjoyable series with lots of great duels, characters, and moments from the show. I was even ify about watching Zexal at first because of what I heard about it, but I gave it a chance and I ended up really liking it.

OK what is with the death scenes being cut out or censored. Death has no consequence in the end. Look at the end of Zexel, everyone came back. As for the [art for Vector's back story, yeah I noticed the huge change without ever looking at the sub. Why would the cut the violence? Also, why take out the blood, unless it's a hole in the torso, I don't see a problem. People bleed. Wait, they censored a kiss? Seriously, what the hell? Hmm, they change Yuma's catch phrase. I find it funny how death is considered a big no no in the dub of the other series to which most deaths are changed to kidnaping but in the original duel monster series dub there's a scene were Kaiba does mention how his parents flat out died.... CONSISTENCY!!!! also I actual did watch zeal in the dub when I was in middle school but for some reason I didn't care although this was before I got into subbed anime it wasn't until arc v when I started seeing yugioh and other anime's in sub and made me rematch the previous series in their original Japaneese dub.

So I watched the german version of ZeXal and Mizaels story was butchered, I don't know if it is the same in the english version. So Mizael didn't defend Jinlon and offered to kill him self but turned against him. I actually cried when I saw the version because his backstory was the best and I really love this character. And all of this was just done to cut out the part where they got shot by arrows...I just don't get it, they probably didn't want Mizaels suicide attempt in the show but telling kids that is ok to betray your friends is also awful.

Zexal dub was, and still is, one of my favorites 😊, and like I said last time I have respect for the sub version as well. Although hearing that Kite actually died on the moon is rough. I always held hope that the duel was too much for him but his suit would probably hold out. Also, I think a lot of the loss here was well transferred or “censored” considering that their spirits disintegrated and their literal souls were being absorbed into a mass of power whenever they lost in the Bariyan arc. Granted I can’t say the same for Ray, but Aleto getting banished instead of executed Still, Shark and his sister’s betrayal *really* stung a LOT no matter the version 😞, I still don’t fully understand why he was willing to get rid of his friends despite knowing their friendship was better than their fears. But I’m even prouder that Yuma still was willing to pull a Naruto and shake some send back into him. 😊 Also, to feel the flow and high five the skies, on the road to halfway to forever is VERY inspiring to me. 😁😁Sure it may be said a little too much 😅, but it gets me fired up none the less. 😎😊 All in all I thank you again for this info. 😊🙏🏾

I recently got my friend to watch the show, and I’m watching it with her. We got a few running gags in our reactions... Every time Yuma says either one of his catchphrases, we tell him to shut up. We call Trey “baby boi” and “precious baby boi”. We always seem to compliment Quinton and his fabulous hair... and we call Vetrix “tiny daddy” Honestly... we’re just watching it for the hot and cute boys.

Personally, after you tell me what he said in the sub, im glad i watched the dub. I think feeling the flow and high five the sky are much better. It paints a way more positive picture of his love for dueling and how he always did it for fun. Plus, Zexal's first dub opening is just too good to listen to and it has the same phrase of high five the sky. My only issue i had with zexal was how bad yuma was for like the whole first season or 2. if astral wasn't there, he would of lost easy peezy.

shark is my favorite character in the franchise and the fact that his name got butchered is unforgivable. the fact that the yugioh wikia prioritizes the dub names (something no other anime wikia does) makes it worse

great video as always! zexal was the first yugioh series i decided to watch all the way through, and i'm so glad i did since my interest in the series has grown immensely. zexal's dub really undermines how great the series actually was - i still think it has some of the best art direction/animation in yugioh; its not ALWAYS amazing, but its consistent and very pleasing. i loved how it started off rather innocent and then turned into a life-or-death situation that yuma wasn't expecting. i know a lot of people give yuma flack, but i really loved him as a character; he developed SO much over the course of the series, you can tell that he matured and accepted others while also pushing to become stronger. i really admire that. if you havent seen zexal, i totally recommend it. though be warned, the beginning is rather slow due to plot buildup and occasional filler, but i think t's worth it due to the main cast being so well developed. kaito really pulls zexal I together, and vector is one of the best villains ive seen in an anime (for several reasons i wont list due to spoilers). its just. interesting to watch. they tried something different with this series, and it shows.

My favorite change in all of Yugi oh is when 4 kids actually left worse implications than the original. I'm referring to the original after janochi is beaten and mugged by rare hunters. In the original, Honda meets him on a beach, and ends up punching him. In the 4 kids version, Honda presumably finds him in an alley after the rare hunters beat him the night before.

I really should rewatch Zexal subbed from start to finish since I only saw maybe 15% subbed due to certain sites screwing up with their streams. These video series are great and have also played a factor in encouraging me to rewatch every series subbed to see them as they were intended.
