@@erikwoodruff5643 DM had the whole "Duel monsters is the modern version of this ancient magical ritual thing". GX more or less kept that in addition to it apparently being how Duel Monsters themselves battle each other. In 5ds they used the excuse from DM for the Dark Signers, made up new reasons for each duel and they also had the whole thing with Duel Runners coming to a stop after a Turbo Duel which is why Security duels the criminals instead of shooting out tires: it's safer to disable the duel runner with a forced duel. Every series has some decent reason as to why they have to duel, but Zexal just flat out created enemies where real life logic most likely wouldn't work. Zexal may be my least favorite series, but I give credit where credit is do and making does where I can understand why a card is a better answer than a gun is one of them.

I assumed the point of the Locator Cards was that the duel disk would register the number you had in order to give the location for the finals rather than each one being different (it makes less sense for a tournament to use things which function like Heart Pieces due to bad luck potentially leading to some duelists only needing to win 4 matches to get to the finals while others are screwed over by getting pieces which they can't fit together).
