This is a great example that you don't need "jump" to skate great! Jumping isn't the only element in figure skating. I still can't get over the fact that she didn't get the gold medal! BUT!! Oh my goodness. This is my second favourite performance of hers ever, behind the 2010 olympic free skate. Holy moly. I don't care much for jumps in general, I watch her for the way she combines her amazing skating skills with a great feel for the music. Her choreographer is sooo good! :O

It's no wonder that she was able to break so many records, but in 2010 especially~~ the 2010 Vancouver Olympics were definitely one of her top performances, and I was in awe when she scored that combined 228.56 points 🙏 just watching her is just art, mixing in a perfect amount of complex movements and amazing choreo into a concept~

As a figure skater my goal is to be a quarter of as good and mesmerizing as Yuna. I can't say the same for Evgenia though. Her jumps are a bit muscled and her skating isn't as "unreal" as Yuna's. Yuna is so amazing. Evgenia is good too but I feel like Yuna is different in a very very good way.

Figure skating, as fun and easy it is you see she performed, is a dangerous sport. One miscalculation and the consequences shall be devastating. EVERY renowned figure skater has suffered AT LEAST ONE if not numerous injuries. When they grow older, their bodies won't be as forgiving as it used to be, and each time they jump it could very easily be their last. That's the reason why their average lifespan as competitive figure skater is about 10 years. Yuna has also aged past the golden era of her career, thus her stamina, flexibility, ... can't sustain the requirements for competitive figure skating with younger ones. I do think she can still achieve more medals and stay with us for a longer period of time. But well, retire before your body fails you is a very sensible decision, catching up on your life outside the endless medal-hunting event even more so. I'm just glad that she's happy.
